Forums - Sony - PS3 Longer-term port phenominon... best thing ever?

Well, the OP has a point, sort of. PS3 owners eventually will see some of the best 360 exclusive franchises moving to PS3 (it's not too farfetched to think a Gears of War could appear on it), not a chance for Halo, though. But 360 will never , ever see games like Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo or Final Fantasy, and that's written on stone.

Your the type of consumer SONY is aiming for! I bet you bought a PS3 day one just so you could play mgs 4 2 years later. Seriously who the hell likes to wait for things when it is already available lol

Hello. My name is Phillip. Nice meeting you.

Probably not MGS4 since Sony is bundling it, but GT, GoW are made and published by Sony and Final Fantasy could go to 360, but not 13 and v13.

Also, GeoW is published and paid for by Microsoft, the only other platform it is going to is PC and Mass Effect was published by Microsoft also and when it was sold to EA (and this part is rumor as far as I know) EA agreed to Mass Effect 2 being a 360 exclusive.

Wow, almost every game you listed will not go to the PS3. They're published by MS.

MS is taking a publisher strategy to ensure exclusives instead of Sony's approach of buying developers and using their talents. Both have their advantages and disadvantages:

In a publisher model, you're constantly adapting to the environment and switching developers to go for the most bang-for-the-buck. In Sony's in-house model, you have the stability of a core developer, ownership of IP, but you're sacrificing mobility should a developer go downhill.

One has to wonder if the OP created a VG profile just to spark a fanboy argument...

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

And just to add, 1st party 360 exclusives are.(or those that M$ have bought sole rights to.)

Gears of War
Halo3
Viva Pinata
Lost Odyssey
Blue Dragon
Forza 2
PGR3,4
Ninja Gaiden 2
Too Human
Fable 1,2

StarCraft can probably add more.

Thats at least 9 IP's that M$ have 100% rights to.

So the OP was saying?

Blue Dragon? That would be like a 360 owner begging for Lair to be ported. You've got a list full of garbage, or with better competition on the PS3 (esp. for racing) or as cross-platform games, with the exceptions of the ones I mentioned in my original post.

Gears 1, Viva Pinata, Fable 1, Mass Effect have all come out on the PC, so it doesn't bother me that they are not coming to the PS3 (that cuts the number of IPs/reasons-to-buy-a-360 you have listed down considerably). I would prefer to play Viva Pinata on a console, but with modern HDTVs acting as giant monitors for a computer you can hide behind them, its not too big a deal. I am stoked that BioShock is coming to the PS3, because, as with Oblivion and NG: Sigma, it will undoubtably be a superior version -- as all long-term ports seemed to have turned out to be. Its only the cross-platform releases that seem to suffer on the PS3, although even that has lessened a LOT lately, presumably due to the developers having their, likely more complicated, PS3 engines finally up to par. In the future the tables may be turned on the 360, due to this same issue -- yet another reason to not bother owning one.

The fact that gaming is about games, and not about which console you own, is even more relevant in this situation.

What I'm saying is that, even with the 360s predominance in #s thusfar in America, I don't see many 1st party games or games published by MS that I want, relative to PS3 games. Why doesn't MS push a little harder with the publishing? If they cannot guarantee that a game will not ever come to the PS3, or they go and publish a scalable, better version for Windows... why would I ever want a 360?

The MS strategy doesn't seem to work for me -- I just can't see a reason to buy a 360 (the reason always boils down to exclusives for me). I'm merely wondering how commonplace this is.

Comparing Blue Dragon to Lair?

Ugh. Fail. Played them both, no comparison.

I thought they both stunk, personally.  If you liked Blue Dragon... more power to ya.
