Isn't that really a moot point that they support them if we are talking about player base? Obviously many support them, but the player base is tiny.

Objectively, if we just counted amount of collective time spent gaming, SSJ is absolutely correct that the PC is by far the dominant gaming platform even over the consoles and handhelds combined.
I would expect using one's console to go on the Web to increase in popularity roughly as fast as HDTVs do.  The web does not look so hot on SDTVs, but I do it anyway sometimes just to have it on my big TV.

That was @ ssj12.  This is fun! 

I agree with your point ... for now.  Probably for this gen.  But not forever.  The PC will doubtless always rule this sector of gaming, but it will not have the monopoly it now enjoys.

He knows nothing by saying PC gaming is dieing, when PC gaming is getting more and more revenue than ever.

Mark Rein, now there's a guy who knows things. I remember watching a clip and he smiled when he said UT3 was selling good on Steam.


To be more specific Rein said "Valve has done great with their Steam stuff and we've shipped Unreal Tournament 3 on Steam and it's actually been very successful" with a big grin on his face.

That's it. I'm going to make a comparison of games from each platform after this semester of 2008 is over, and once again in the end of the year; Just to see the pissed faces of some people here when they see PC dominating in the amount of good games.

Cliffy B has never made a PC game in his life.   You're probably thinking of Mark Rein, the owner of Epic games.  Cliffy B is a console only developer.  Honestly you are just embarassing yourself now.

Hrmm, this is true, but the PC is gaining new markets that the consoles may have trouble tapping.  For example: The online functionality of consoles is very limited.  Consoles can't release all their games via digital distribution because it would kill in-store software sales which would kill their retail support (Best Buy was just last year threatening to drop the PSP for poor software sales).  

Digital distribution offers many advantages.  Less piracy, great convenience (you can pre-install games before they release on Steam and they'll be unlocked at Midnight), no changing of discs, up to 4 times the profits according to Mr. Newell, and more options for online multiplayer and community features.

If you want to include flash games fine. That jsut opened a new level of games. The Ps3 does not support them, well most due to an out of date web app. The Wii probably does to an extent to what has been optimized for the controller.

But I am talking about text based games (muds, text-based strategy, etc), web-launched games like the indie title Gunz the Duel and the web based MMO Fighting game Bots.
So "web based games"="browser based games" after all.  Why is it that you say that the PS3/Wii cannot handle these?

OMG You are so right! How could I have forgotten Cliffy B made 3 DOS games in the early 90s.  /sarcasm

As Rein said, Cliffy B is a console developer. He doesn't know the PC market.

Last time I checked wikipedia, bejeweled had sold 5 million times. BEJEWELED! I simply cannot see how people still think that pc gaming is dying. People like to say how the wii is expanding gaming, which indeed it is. But PC gaming has already tapped the casual market and has digital distribution models that are far more profitable (and allow you to sell full sized games, not just budget titles) retail, plus it still maintains a retail presence. PC gaming is decentralised on the web and its making a lot more money then people give it credit for.

Well I'm not, I'm arguing the general superiority of PC as an individual gaming platform. Certainly in online and casual gaming though SSJ's argument is correct. There is evidence of this aplenty in my post. Not to mention outside the games that generate sales revenue there are tens of millions more people playing Solitar, flash games, and online chess than there are playing casual games on consoles.

 you and naznatips should realize that even with all the facts and numbers to back up your arguments, there will always be someone out there to contest you (to no avail as of yet) so why even bother. they will continue to froth at the mouth to prove a point and i for one am not ashamed to admit that i am one to do so. naznatips had a really great post earlier and really shed some light for me about the pc market in general (in which i am not too familiar with) but since all you hear about nowadays are console gaming, of course you are going to get arguments about why console games are better than pc's.
