Forums - Sony - Best router for the ps3?

Hi all, im fairly new, a loving ps3 owner as some will have seen...

Tis the summer , and when im at home, id like to have a try at playing my PS3 online, as ive heard its quite good. To do this, apparently i need a router, but as i know nothing of routers i dont know where to start. Does anybody have any ideas?

We have tiscali broadband through our wall connected to the computer downstairs, the ps3 is directly above in my bedroom.

What routers do people suggest?

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Do you want wired or wireless? If you can, wired is the way to go.

Any router will do just fine, but make sure if you get one with a hardware firewall that you change the firewall settings for the PS3 to allow all traffic to it this way your games don't run slow. This is especially true if you use the Wi-Fi connection.

netgear ftw

well wired has the disadvantage of requiring wires which take up space, put holes in walls and cost money, while wireless leaves more room for interferences and lag.

btw the story is...i had a 60g model that came with an ethernet cable, but the ps3 started to freeze and fail so we took it back...i forgot to put the ehternet cable in :s

so now i have a 40g model and etherney cable...does the ethernet cable still work despite the model change?

yes, all modern ethernet cables (Cat 5) are the same.

As internet-wise im a bit useless, am i to assume i simply buy a router, plug it into the ps3, follow the instructions and the ps3 will just run off the tiscali internet connection we have downstairs?

Yes?

btw thanks for your responses dogsrule

I have the linksys router (wrt54G)and it is good,,It has the fire wall but I allowed all the connections from the PS3 to go through without firewall interrupting(processs is easy)
