Forums - Sony - Finally, a cheap Blu-ray player is here ( ok well in a couple of weeks)

wake me up when there is a $99 blue ray player, as of right now I don't a two cent about blue ray and its higher price tag on movie, and I own not 1 but 2 HDTV. One is a 50' Plasma and the other one is 40' LCD, and dvd look fine on both.

You enjoy "Fine" , but i'll take "Superior".

Omg i'm sounding more and more like SDF everyday .... kEwL.

Blu-ray beats dvd quality three times to breakfast, but if I didn't already own a PS3 I would not be interested until the players reached $150 or below.

I see a future where both blu-ray and DVD coexist, Blu-ray for movies and other HD content and DVD for TV shows and other low def content, players that play both are the future, hopefully this $300 player is DVD backwards compatible. Blu-ray is not a DVD killer, it's its compliment.

There NEEDS to be cheaper bluray players in order to grow the brand and format. I don't see BluRay sales even getting close to DVD until standalones are $149-$199, and the American analog broadcast -> digital broadcast law is in effect.

Hey its your money, y'all don't have to buy squat if you don't want to. But, just consider this: The price drop will at least double the % of blu-ray as part of physical media for movies, and therefore increase one of the reasons that people get a PS3 in the first place. So we're about to see another modest "bump" in PS3 sales.

2008 xmas sales of bluray = very good but 2009 xmas sales of bluray >> DVD player sales.
2010 xmas sales of bluray software > DVD software.

However, I won't be part of that.DLC 2018 FTW!!!

fixed

I still don't know why the 360 crowd is pinning their hopes on HD downloads....I mean it will only take sony another year (mabey two considering how slow they move) to get into the HD download thing, and offer cheaper prices than the 720 and wipe the floor w/ em, at least in that respect.  I mean, downloads are just an add-on feature anyway. I don't know any PS3 fans that are pinning their hopes of PS3 domination on Home....

Are you sure? HD-DVD's death did like zero for the sale of standalones.  There was a boost for like... 2 weeks then everything crashed hard and didn't increase as expected.

TV Shows are in HD, too. I have Lost Season 3 on blu-ray and can't go back from that.
