Forums - Sony - What the gaming community has done to Haze

Now that you bring it up, yeah, that was my biggest complaint about Uncharted (other than the stupid zombie nazis). It was a mix of many other games and cinema. On the other hand, it was pretty well executed and a fun game.

No, while the gameplay in Uncharted was nothing special the story and the delivery was fantastic (up until the Nazi zombies apparently) and it just did a great job of making you feel like you were playing one of those bad 80's movies like Romancing the Stone we all loved.

Aren't we supposed to censor spoilers?

Some of them were Spaniards, but it was pretty much the low point of the game.  I hope they keep that stuff out of Uncharted 2.

As for Haze, it is just a victim of delays and a ton of good FPS games coming out in the interlude.

I was actually glad to hear that spoiler.  I apparently stopped right before the point where those happen and I think I'm better off for it.

I'm probably going to get Haze. I think that the 4 player co-op and the story will be more than enough to keep me happy.

The game doesn't have to be something incredible, it just has to be a good, solid game, and it seems to me like Haze will indeed be a good, solid game. Perhaps not a great solid game, but certainly one that is worth my time.

Thats my 2 cents anyway.

Instead of saying what would (after all, why would I give you my ideas or how could I tell you the future?) lets just give you some past FPS's that did some great things:

Halo: Introduced a nice control and gameplay mechanics and allowed for some amazing multiplayer
Gears of War: Great cover system. Cover had been done before, but nothing like this
Portal: Do I really need to say anything?
Bioshock: Amazing atmosphere and great storytelling
Half-Life 2: Interactive cut scenes and physics puzzles
Resistance: Fall of Man: 40 player multiplayer
Halo 3: Amazing depth multiplayer, 4 player co-op

I'm sure there are more, those were just some off the top of my head.

Also, a game doesn't have to be revolutionary to be good, it just has to be good and not be stale. As others have said, Haze might very well be a good game but the fact it's lumped in with a whole crapload of other games just like it, it's hard to make it seem like something special.

It's worth mentioning that, aside from the cover system which I'm not sure of, everything you listed was done on the PC first.  And in some cases, 10+ years before.

Portal is the exception since it was on the 360 shortly after the PC (a year?), and I'm not sure if anything existed before it quite like it.

The best first person shooter multiplayer I've played was Team Fortress for GLQuake.  That was absolutely amazing, groundbreaking, awesome mulitplayer online gaming.  In 1997.  Counter-Strike was awesome in 2000.

so what if it doesnt turn out to be revolutionary...the only thing i really care about is if its a good game...its a shooter after all....you shoot things....no need for a revolution really....if it has a solid story,Good gameplay, and everything works in the game....whats the diffrence?  if you dont like it....dont play it.

Agian, we're not talking about PC here.

Also, just curious, what game had a cover system that is better than Gears 10 years ago?

The game has been out for six months now. I think the spoiler rule stops applying after a few months.

You are the better for it. You got to play all the good parts of the game and none of the bad.

Every publisher and developer wants a great series to make. The revolutionary games are the first ones, Halo-RFOM-MGS-Bioshock etc. These are games that find their own niche rather than fighting for the generic pool.

The problem for Free radical, if they don't carve out a niche... The series dies on the first installment. I hope it doesn't happen, but it might. I was really interested in the backstory so hopefully they can win out on brilliant storytelling, I was not impressed with Nectar grenades in the gameplay presentation.

The graphics are good - With no loading and seamless gameplay. I just have questions about the gameplay, I've played the demo and the shooting was RFOM level so playable but they have to hook people in with that story, because if they do that then they can sell their million and get their franchise going.

P.S RFOM looks like it rocks the socks of Single player/Multiplayer. It just ooozes 90%+ style in metacritic.

Tease.

Let's kick it up a notch.

da rulez sez:

No spoilers in threads which are not clearly marked for them. One year is the cutoff under which a 'spoiler' becomes 'general information', which can be discussed in any thread at any time.

Bam!
