I had an issue back at the end of December that caused my ps3 to stop reading discs. They extended my warranty "out of goodwill" as well, so the repairs were free, and I'm wondering if my warranty was renewed after the fact like yours was.

I'm assuming SCEA's replacement policy differs from SCEE's, because they had to receive my ps3 before shipping me a new one, much like what they did for yourself, Dogs.

That was why I asked what his model version was. If its a 40GB, maybe under certain circumstances it is easier to send a new one than to fix the problem and they know it from the symptoms. With a 60GB such as my defective one, it might be harder for them to just find one in their inventory.
