Forums - Gaming - Starcraft series V's Halo series

Which series do you prefer discuss.

I have only played Halo 1 and Halo 3 and I did not like either game much. I have not played Starcraft. Would Starcraft be worth playing today? I heard Halo series was a copy of Starcraft but using a FPS gameplay instead of Starcraft's RTS gameplay. Both series are sci-fi series.

Are we talking strickly story line? Obviously gameplay is too different to compare. Starcraft has a pretty amazing story line that is well flushed out in the game.

Halo has a solid story line, i mean they stole the Ringworld from Larry Niven so I have to give them props for that. Good story line that is only partially fleshed out. Here is my biggest problem with Halo story: Master Chief is an enlisted rank. And yet he is called sir. Major fopa.

So i give the edge to starcraft story wise.

Halo is a big game in a a big genre of big games whilst Starcraft is the big titan amongst a smaller genre of games. I would say Starcraft is a bigger name worldwide, while Halo is bigger in the states.

Tease.

En Taro Cortana? Jim Raynor, Master Chief?

I struggle to see any real link aside from "Sci Fi" and Aliens. Well, also awesome multiplayer I suppose. So, whoever told you they were similar either has a perspective I completely lack, or is batshit crazy.

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

Terrans = Space Marines, Zerg = flood, and Protoss = Covenant

no similarities eh?

Ive said it before and I'll say it again. Halo is a starcraft and Half life rip off

For some reason I entirely forgot about the flood. That's rather impressive of myself.

Possibly because I never saw them as anything but "Hey, side thing to break up monotony". Then again, I've yet to play Halo 3 singleplayer for any real length of time. I should get on that.

Besides, let's do our defence on differences, aside from the fact there's 3:
Halo:
Humans: Hi, we're... in space because it's the future.
Flood: We're parasites that.... umm, parasite. Space parasites. Kinda like those real ones, but a bit more deadly.
Covernant: We're the aliens that aren't really invading till game 2. But we're in Space, humans are in space, it's war time!
Starcraft:
Terrans: We're criminals in space because Australia was full.
Zerg: We're created organisms attempting evolution by assimilation. Hey, you look yummy. What traits can you pass on?
Protoss: We're created organisms attempting evolution by physical and psychic power.
Xel'Naga: Yeah, you can blame us for fucking with creation. We don't show up aside from brief hints and maybe, just maybe we'll be in Starcraft 2. Till next time!

Scarcrraft is like a million times better than Halo, and I still play it on a regular basis even though its like 10 years old.

Starcraft 2 will pwn all.

LOL. You can tell those that have played Halo and those who think they know. The storylines are totally different. Forerunners build 7 Halo rings to contain Flood. Main control center is on Earth. Forerunners were forced to use a Halo ring, hence no more Forerunners. The covenant forces are searching for the rings, they come across humans. They believe that the 3 prophets are leading them to a promised time. They (humans) stumble on Halo after The Fall Of Reach (a major Human planet) when they jumped away to any old coordinates. Thats where the first Halo starts.

Over Halo 2 the covenant start to seperate into those that distrust the prophets and those that blindly follow. At which point the arbiter realises the prophets mistake about what Halo rings are. Here you find out that Halo rings are weapons to contain the parasite Flood(actually you find this out in 1, but is ellaborated in 2.). Enter Halo 3. The fight returns to Earth. Where the Humans realise the control centre for the rings is right under there nose. It's a last stand and a fight to the death. The Brutes are now the new underlings of the last remaining prophet. Full on war.

yawn

I am apalled you would even hold those two in the same breath.

Starcraft is the sole game that catalyzed the competitive tournament scene for gamers. More than a DECADE later its still selling better than many of the newer games out there.

Halo is just some console FPS. It wasn't the first, it wasn't the best. Maybe the most hyped. 10 years from now, see if anyone still talks about Halo.
