Sony lost 124.5m this quarter right?

No, they lost $1.25 billion for the year. They lost about $280 million for the quarter.

I was right. The good performance in holiday from PSP and PS2 had offset PS3 losses in 3Q.

However US$ 1.25 billion is operating income , right ? So maybe they lost more caused by the weak dollar ...

Operating income does not include effects of currency. That is reflected in net income.

Well this is definitely a mixed bag. Although Sony's overall Net Income more than doubled, from 126.3Yen to 369.4Yen, their increases in revenue rose only a modest 6.9% from last year. The profit margin was *much* higher though, going from a 1.4% profit margin to about 4% so this is a big improvement. So overall, Sony did pretty well, but it just wasn't as overwhelming a victory as I thought that the results would turn out to be.

Sony's Game division however, improved substantially. It's rev in 2007 (for the fiscal year) was 1016 and in 08 was 1284Yen, and this was a 26% increase in rev mostly resulting from price cut I assume, but the loss in profits was halved or cut to 50% of what they were. This is pretty good as even though another big price cut happened, sony not only eked out more revenue but decreased their losses in profits which I would think would dispell any and all notions of desperation.
