Forums - Gaming - Which HD is right for me?

Well looks like you can Add "Zoids: Assault" To the 360 list of japanese games yet to be released. (Not to mention the 360 games alerady released.)

If your bored at the moment get the 360.

If you want to wait and feel it out, go ahead, see if Microsoft stops throwing money at Japanese devs at some point.

If he wants to play games, he should get a PS2 actually. That is, if he never had one. If he buys an 80GB PS3 he will have the largest game library available for a single console in history. PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. So if he really really wants to play games, I don't think he can't argue with that.

Except the title of the thread is, "Which HD [console] is right for me?" That's why I didn't mention the PS2. And besides, you can always get a 360 plus a PS2 for less money than the 80gb PS3 - and the PS2 can play ALL PS1 and PS2 games perfectly.

Anyway, excluding backwards compatibility, the 360 does have better games.

Heh, looks like you got banned for these comments. I'd just like to point out the PS3 is only $50 more than the equivalent 360 versions that are worth purchasing. The PS2 is still $120, I believe. The PS3 is a better deal without Blu-ray factored in. With Blu-ray, it's not even close.

You like Japanese style games?
Then I suggest you wait for the 80gig MGS bundle.
You have the Ps3 library (and future line up) and all the Japanese Ps2 and Ps1 games (which grossly outweigh all the 360's games)
You also get a Blu-ray player, free online service, more reliable hardware.

If you need an HD console RIGHT NOW, and have no desire to play online (seeing as how you prefer Japanese titles, I doubt you do), I would recommend an XBox360. There really is nothing for the PS3 that would probably interest you ATM (in my opinion), other than maybe Folklore. Maybe DMC4. There are basically no RPGs on the PS3 right now, while the XBox360 has had a couple decent ones (Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata). And while the PS3 does have Disgaea 3, WKS, FF13/Versus, and Valkyria Chronicles, the XBox360 has Tales of Vesperia, Infinites Undiscovery, and Fable 2 in the line-up.

If you can wait though, I would recommend doing just that. Wait for some more concrete information about the lineups of each console (particularly late 2008/early 2009). I would wait until after TGS 08 (in August?). I'm personally inclined to believe that the PS3 will have a stronger Japanese-centric library when all is said and done for this generation, but at the moment, I would be hard pressed to recommend it over an XBox360 for that "genre."

Edit: And guys, I think he already has a PS1/2. He said that he would traditionally choose the Sony console.  But if he doesn't, then it's a no brainer.  80 GB PS3 (or a 60 GB if you can find it for perfect backwards compatibility).

Sure he may have a ps2 but look at his game collection. He has added some consoles in already. I doubt he just forgot to add some games in from the biggest console in history. That's why I suggest a Ps3 with backwards compatibility. Also why are you recommending 360 if you believe ps3 will have more Japanese support later? Sure he could buy a 360 then a Ps3 but I took it as he only wants to purchase one. In that case if Sony gets better Japanese support (which I'm willing to bet it does since it is a Japanese company with big 1st party developers) then I'm forced to recommend the Ps3.

We all know I support the Ps3 over the 360, but if these assumptions of mine are correct (Only wanting one other console and not having a Ps2) then whoever is saying 360 obviously has their own personal agenda.

Wow, I went on holiday to Singapore for a month and came back to this! Thanks everyone! But I guess "Easternized" games are on the decline anyhow, I'm probably just trying to justify my personal tastes in an industry that's moving away from them. I may just not bother and stick with my 16-bit consoles (and Wii). I don't think an old codger who values simlicity and ingenuity has any place in the modern gaming world.

i guess no matter what isay its going to be called biased ranter, so i guess i will say nothing

I'd suggest you take a look at this...
