Forums - Gaming - Microsoft should not of entered Video game market

Man if I only got a nickel for every anti-Microsoft rhetoric comment I'd be as rich as Bill Gates.

Nintendo needed Rare back in the Game Cube days. Game Cube struggled to sell over 22 million consoles. Down from 33 million N64 to 22 million Game Cube, a big fall in numbers.

That's retarded to assume Rare could have kept Nintendo from selling less than N64 levels.

Like I said, Rare made 2 AAA games on N64 EVERY YEAR. They were able to make 1 GC game and then their artists and programmers started jumping ship to other companies. Nintendo realized Rare was no longer the company they were so they sold off their 49% share.

Since Nintendo sold Rare, they have made 1 GC remake and one failed title on Xbox and 3 X360 titles (one of which started as a GC game).

N64 - 10 absolutely incredible games in just 4 years.

GC - 1 decent game1 year on the market.

Xbox and X360 - 5 mediocre to decent games after 7 years.

Thanks for the background information. I did not take an interest ingaming, last console generation. Well a cheap PS2 might be fun to check out if I have missed out on much.

Then you might want to do some research before you make claims about topics you aren't familiar with.

Past two years, Sony has taken more losses than MS. In fact, MS has made profit so far this FY...Sony hasn't.

But that's mostly because MS's schedule/console cycle was a year earlier.  Plus, your insistence on looking at the ONLY 2 year period where MS comes out on top is laughable. ;)

Pretty good reasons Rock_On!  I was scared when I first clicked on the thread.

MS was terrified that someday Playstation would be a computer/media hub/computer in the living room, displacing their software dominance with PCs.  They, like Sony, want to be the center of things, though their focus is more software/standard based (IE while most CE companies wanted Java on HD discs, MS insisted on pushing their proprietary standard onto them...the BDA did not bite, but HD-DVD went with it and MS backed HD-DVD and failed.)

I hope PS3 Linux functionality continues to improve and be supported.  With wireless mouse and keyboard...nice.

That's cause MS isnt that great and there are a lot of reason to be anti MS

Since the introduction of Microsoft there has been a huge leap in technology, consequently leading to increased costs of launch consoles for both MS and Sony.

That means Bill Gates does get a nickel for every comment like that.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I only wish starcraft could be here to experience this with us.

Really, thats funny, nobody I know that has one and a PS3 likes the PS3 better. But I guess that just an opinion just like your opinion about them entering the videogame market. What a useless thread.

I own both, and like the PS3 better. I have 5 friends that own both, and all of them like the PS3 better. The only people I know that don't like the PS3 (3 people), don't own one.

To the OP....

Your crazy :p

Microsoft is a cancer that makes the entire computer technology industry way behind what it could be. The fact that Windows has no concurrence is what permits them to release pieces of shit like Windows Vista, force proprietary standards (such as docx) and produce totally unprofessional softwares.

However, Microsoft's presence in the video game business is actually beneficial to everyone. Microsoft helped Sony to kick Nintendo's butt last generation which made them realize they had to change and then we got the Wii. They also are strongly competing Sony which became awfully arrogant by the end of last generation and now the PS3, which is a magnificient video game console as well as Blu-Ray player is being sold quite cheap.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Microsoft is to the PC industry as EA is to the sports game industry. Both are monopolistic and lack innovation and bring out shoddy upgrade one after the other. Take a look at the EA titles and see how great they have been with no competition, lol.

Wait both EA and Microsoft have a close relationship. No surprises there.
