life is so much easier when you get stuff for free, the only thing i pay for are the consoles them selfs. My cousin has crazy hook ups he can scam me anything the day i want except consoles because those are his money makers

Hmm, i'm not sure. Most games purchased at full price:

Wii + 20 games

Xbox 360 + 5 games

DS + 11 games

Some of our games are above the average cost -- for example, we have two guitar hero games and two guitars. We have multiple controllers for everything -- 3 Wiimotes, classic controllers, etc. We only have two Xbox 360 controllers though. I don't think it's been all that expensive compared to other entertainment costs (or even other electronics costs), so I haven't kept track of it. We did buy a nice 50" HDTV also, but I wouldn't factor that into the cost of gaming.

For example, I spent more on Camera equipment and lenses.  One camera lens is more expensive than a 'next gen' console.  

You spent $40 on a piece of copper?! You shouldn't pay more than $4 for an HDMI cable unless you're buying thick-guage wire for in-wall installation or long distance.

Only bought a PSP , I mostly play other peoples stuff so about $250 for me.

360 - 3 consoles @ £500, 18 games @ £450   360 total spend = £950
PS3 - 1 console @ £300, 11 games @ £400    PS3 total spend = £700
Wii - 1 console @ £200, 7 games @ £200         Wii total spend = £400
