It is obviously competing, because it is taking market share away from both the PS3 and 360. Look at it this way, if you take the wii numbers out of total consoles sold this gen, than this gen looks pathetic. This far into the generation and just over 30 million consoles sold total? That would be a huge step backwards in sales. But add the wii's numbers to this gen and suddenly the market is flourishing. The reason? People are buying wii's instead of (not only in addition too) PS3s and 360s. So yeah, they are directly competing.

 QFT.

The numbers are more telling than anything.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

Just because a VW Bug is a car, is it competiting with Ferrari & Lamborghini?

^

Yes it is. If there were only Ferraris, more people would spare up extra money for Ferraris. This would cause Ferraris to lose their uniqueness, as everyone owns them, and they would have to lower the price, and make a less powerful car, not to be overrun by the competition that could be comming, so yes, it does.

No, but we don't have a VW console vs a Ferrari console.   We have an Infinity G Sedan vs a Lincoln Town Car.

Then again, the Bugatti Veyron is a VW so take your pick.

The Wii is in direct competition with the 360 and PS3 and here's why:

The monsterously huge majority of the consumer market only buy 1 video game system per generation. That means that for 90%+ of households who had a PS2 or Xbox last gen and have now bought a Wii will *never* buy a PS3 or 360.

And I'm pretty sure that any product that directly steals sales from another product is in direct competition.

Actually forget cars... If the PS3 is taking the bus then the Wii is a bicycle, and the Xbox360 is walking, because the bus broke down.

Tease.

The fact that this thread exists proves that they do compete because if they really didn´t compete no one would bother making this troll thread to peace their minds why their console of choice is being overrun by the Wii.
