Crap. I knew this would turn into a big war.
On one hand, I completely see where ioi's coming from. He's putting in all this work to accommodate so few of us, and we're essentially slapping him in the face by going behind his back (we as in the members of Section 8.1).
And yes, S8.1 could be seen as an elitist group, because access to the forum is so severely limited. It's the same reason that most people hate NeoGAF, yet S8.1 is far more exclusive than NeoGAF will probably ever be.
But on the other hand, people do have the right to post wherever they want, and you can't exactly demand that S8.1 be abandoned. I think that may be the root of many S8.1'ers' outrage over this thread. They feel as if their rights are being threatened.
And I think you have a few misconceptions of S8.1, ioi. We do not talk about others behind their backs. The ONLY member that we made occasional jabs at was Faxanadu, and that's only because of the anger he displayed when he found out about the original Section 8.
And you claim that S8.1 is competing with VGChartz, when it's really not. It's a place where veteran VGChartzers (as in those who have already contributed quite heavily to the site *looks at my 5,480 post count*) could discuss things of a more personal nature that wouldn't quite fly on VGChartz, or more controversial subjects that might start flame wars on VGChartz (like my DS vs PSP thread. I chose the DS, btw :P).
Also, the selection of new members for S8.1 was not placed in the hands of only 2-3 people. All members could nominate new users, and then Kenzomatic would set up public polls for the new users to be voted upon by the entire site. You could vote either yes, no, or veto. A potential member required 80%+ yes votes to gain access to the site, but 2+ vetoes guaranteed that they wouldn't make it in. The number of vetoes become troublesome as our size grew, however, and we were planning to up it to three or four for the next round of voting. Any member that failed to gain membership in one round of voting could be re-nominated in the next, and could continue to be re-nominated until they made it in.
Really, S8.1 was very democratic. I think that is the main allure it has for these guys over and above this S8.
But in the end, my loyalties lie with VGChartz.
