Forums - Gaming - Should Square Enix Make a Turnbased Final Fantasy Spinoff series?

You seem to be a retro fan. Get Icewind Dale as well. I played that game to hell.

I decided I would rather have FFVI and IV remakes for the wii or ps3 rather than a spinoff series.
@ Routsounmanman Ok I will try that.

If you like turn based RPGs... there are a lot of better ones than Final Fantasy has been lately. Broaden your horizens beyond Final Fantasy.

If your an RPG fan you really won't be disapointed.

It seems to me not only final fantasy is going real time , but new ips and some other franchises are too. How many turn based rpgs were announced on the wii or 360. The only place I could get them is my ds, and some are ont he 360 and psp.

Edit @ rout I just ordered baldurs gate 2 days ago.

The reason the industry is moving away from turn based is because turn based RPGs have been both stagnant and overcrowded for the past 10 years.  Applying a fresh coat of paint to uninspired gameplay isn't captivating the audiences anymore. Also in Square Enix's case, the more varied the battle systems the more games and spinoffs they can base on those variations while justifying them as an advancement of what came before (see: FFXII Revenant Wings).

Then again, Symphonia plays better than those games so I may be a bit biased.

i agree with him though the old snes ff's were classics to the point to where i see remenents of them in the golden sun series. to me the story depth was unpecible. i see people wanting SMRPG2 all the time which would make it turn based and that would be awesome. i myself have though what if we had a turn based rpg to where it was up to 1,000 hours long and took a long time to finish but the boss battle would be so classic that they would be unforgettable. and beating the game the first time would only open a second version (zelda esque) but higher lvls and bigger badder enemies and you got to keep everything you had fromt eh first quest. and you can add quests after each beating of the game. but its just an idea and it will probably never be made. (well WOW is close to being like that.)

oh and one last thing bout that game make it 2D like classic games but with amazing computer animated graphics and the fluidity that would make streetfighter4 look slow and choppy.

Well they're/have been remaking the older FF/DQ games on the DS, so I don't think they're as likely to come out for the home consoles. I'm planning on picking up the remakes whenever I happen to get a DS lite, even though I already have the Super Famicom cartridges.

Yeah, because we really need more turn-based JRPGs.

I think they should. SRPGs/TBRPGS are the most fun ones. Kinda off-topic, but do you have any recommendations of good SRPGS/TBs on DS/Wii?

I'd say Wii is more likely, mainly due to budget. Yet the most likely is a remake of VI on the DS, as there is already one for IV.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Well VI was already remade for ps1, so I could only see the ds version if the controls are good, or if square enix is really money hungry.

IIRC you were part of the FE thread, so I won't reccomend that. My friend told me that the Advance Wars series is good.
