Forums - Microsoft - Spec it out! Create a Xbox 720.

OK, just thought VG users would like to comment on this one.  What do u think the innards of the nextbox will be?  Guesses on the guts? :)  Here's a link to the 360 tech specs if you want to refer: (probably unnecessary, but just in case).   http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/support/xbox360/manuals/xbox360specs.htm

I think they will take a PS 3 and put it in a xbox xterior and make it Wiimote and Wiifit compatible.

Now the world is weird  and people take Prozac  to make it normal.

Assuming early 2012 release
3.2 Ghz Octo (8) Core CPU with integrated 1.5Ghz GPU
4gig RAM
200gig HDD
8X Blu-ray drive- (only if they pay sony for the privilege)
All games render at 1080p (no upscale for most of them)

Actually the only things that would make it worthy it to release a 720 now would be a BD drive and more RAM. The current graphics cards on computer are not that much better and are too expensive right now to make it even a consideration.

1st console launching for over 2 grand confirmed.

EDIT: Didn't read the 2012 release, I thought we were doing one for right now.

It'll have a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray combo, with the HD-DVD being mainly used as the medium for games in order to stop piracy.

I think we'll see a nextbox by 2011 rather than 2012.

Well, 8 core CPU should be more common in 2012, so maybe Mircosoft goes that way. But it could also be 4-6 cores only. And I don't know about the RAM, I don't think consoles needs as much RAM as computers, but 1 GB RAM would be a must. And if they really boast the cache memory in the CPU to about 4 MB or more, then even better!

And I agree a bit with FilaBrasileiro about the GPU. The most important thing would be to cover the things about the GPU that could be better and add some performance. If I was the one putting the next Xbox together I would also add another GPU that was simpler and allot cheaper then the regular one to either boast the graphics capabilities in some kind of (hybrid) Crossfire/SLI thing or/and as a extra processor for physics and other data to be calculated.

Thanks to Wii, next generation might not be so much about pure performance, rather more about getting as much upgrade to the hardware at as low price as possible with maybe two types of control setup to battle Nintendo and Sony at all areas.

I'm going for:

4 Cores @ 3.6 Ghz or two Xenon working together...
1 GB or 1.25 GB of GDDR 5 Ram
Ati GPU, 128-256 shader pipelines, 32 Mb eRam
HDD by Default
And probably Blu-ray
