Forums - Sony - Sony should stop selling the ps2

Yeah, if they stopped selling the PS2 it would be the Wii that got the biggest hardware sales boost from it.

Although I do hope it happens so that 3rd party Wii games take advantage of the Wii's power (compared to a PS2 that is) and motion sensing

If sony was to stop selling the ps2 the 120 million people who own it would most likley go out and but a ps3 because they have trust in them...... whad u think?

First, 120 million different people didn't buy a PS2.  Tons of people bought many PS2s because of unreliability.

And yes it worked that way when the people who bought SNES also bought an N64.  Then those people all went out and bought a Gamecube.  Games and price were all totally irrelevant.

Why Sony should stop PS2? It still have some new games and print so much money for Sony. And it has more than 1500 games. Stop it will move PS3 sales a bit. Yes. But they will lost many profit.

PS2 is cheap at $130 US. Sony makes lots of money from PS2 software and PS2 consoles being sold. PS2 is too good to simply drop off considering the PS3 is no longer BC. BC PS3 was too expensive and people do not need BC.

As long as significant demand still exists for the PS2, there is no sense in terminating it. It can still compete with the next gen systems and its ongoing existence detracts as much from the Wii and the Xbox as it does for the PS3.

To sum up this thread:

"Sony should stop selling a profitable product which is basically carrying their gaming division!"

You people need to get some fucking perspective.

Why should they stop selling it? It's their competitor against the Wii.

MGS4!

PS2 is a good cheap form of gaming. Lots of cheap games are available on the PS2.
The prices of the current generation consoles are still IMO fairly high. Within a year current generation consoles will be much cheaper and have lot more games available across all three platforms.

BTW:The term Next generation consoles being used for consoles that have just been released makes no sense at all. Next generation to me, means consoles that have not been released yet. That is the new PS,Nintendo and XBox consoles due out in the future. Future = next generation.

Asking them to stop selling the ps2 is like telling Sony to stop making some free money! And really why the hell would you ever stop a product that sells 7 years later almost the same way some 2 year new consoles are!

Hey Microsoft are still making Xbox's and Nintendo is still making Gamecubes... the difference is, no one buys them

To MANUELF "SNES is the best console of all time. Why quit when it sells so well? The SNES pwns your soul."

SNES best console of all time!!! PS2 ^127 million >>>>>>>> SNES 49 million. Who was the best again!

Why quit when it sells so well!!! SNES had long ago stop production my friend! T_T

Not that I care whether you think PS2 or SNES is the best console ever, but your logic is quite flawed.  Best console does not equal best selling.  If it does you'll have to admit that Wii Sports is the best game ever.  The other thing is my SNES is going 18 years strong and I still play it each week.  Let me know how many PS2s are that reliable.  Lastly, the market has expanded rediculously.  I think at this point it would be hard to imagine the Wii not passing the PS2 in lifetime sales.
