This sounds like what Nintendo said a couple years ago when they said they were going to compete with the TV remote. ;>

I think the PS3 enables sony to compete in multiple markets , as it compliments other products it's Sony's portfolio.

Blu-Ray
HD-Content
HD TV's

But then I'd still argue that they are in competition with Microsoft's XBOX 360 but they have less to loose from selling less hardware than Microsoft because of the other benefits Sony experience from their console.

I don't really see the Wii and the PS3/360 as direct competitors , they compete to some extent but It only looks like the Wii is dominating both because the XBOX 360 is doing better this gen than it did last , I think people would be more ready to acknowlede this if the 360 flopped.

It only looks like the Wii is dominating???

Please explain how it only can look like the Wii is dominating.

Well like I said before I don't believe the PS3 and Wii are director competitors , if you look at the kind of people Nintendo are trying to apeal to ( With games such as Wii-Fit and Wii-Play ) and the people Sony are tying to apeal to (With games such as Uncharted and GT5:P) I find that they aren't directly competing , of course there's situations where the Wii does atempt to control the hardcore market with Zelda , SSMB and SMG but in truth the hardcore market is captured by the PS3/360.

I think Nintendo will try to capitalise more in future on their opportunities in the hardcore market ( with alot of help from 3rd part developers )  but I think the hardware will be a big limitation , the mature/hardcore game traditionaly leans towards beautiful visuals and violent gameplay something which the PS3/360 offers more readily than the Wi.

Yes the Wii dominates , but it doesn't dominate all. I don't think Nintendo could release a Halo killer FPS neither do I think the could release a GT5 killer racer.

That's the problem with Sony, and that is why Nintendo is beating their a$$es. Nintendo only focused on games, that's one of the reason the wii is cheaper.

Why couldn't Nintendo release a killer FPS (metroid) or a great racing simulator.  Nintendo doesn't need to make realistic games to be fun.  Mario Kart and Metroid are great games in those genre's, just because they are not "realistic" doesn't make them a different type of game.

BTW, your starting to sound like you work for Sony PR.

Ahh, thought so you didn´t have any reasons just being stupid fanboy.

Well if they aren´´t competing then the PS 2 never won last gen since they had the weakest console and thus xbox won last gen. But i am pretty sure that you wont agree cause you are just being a fanboy.

How come when PS expanded to new gamers it was ok and they competed and won last gen but when Nintendo does the same thing but arguably better this gen it´s not competing???

You just cherry pick the battles that suits you??

I agree with what he said totally

and you should look for work at Sony PR because you are just as ludocris in your comments as their PR division is.

Your post further supports my point , Realism is a quality that many gamers look for and appreciate in games often the maturer/hardcore gaming market . I'm not making any reference to sales performance , Nintendo could make a game that killed Halo & GT5 sales combined but that wouldn't detract anything from my main point. The type of gamer that is likely to pick up GT5 for the PS3 or Halo 4 for the XBOX 360 is unlikely to go for a Wii alternative as it'll offer a completley different experience. Nintendo is currenctly unable to apeal to this segment of the market and probably never will do , but they don't neccaserily need to they have profited more from this gen than Sony & Microsoft have from the respective consoles , but my point still remains that they aren't direct competitors.

If Sony stopped supporting the PS3 tommorow the XBOX 360 would likely benefit far more than the 360

In the same way the PS3 would benefit the most from the demise from of the 360

I don't really think either the PS3 or the 360 would benefit signifcantly form the demise of the Wii, it may even hurt the games market more. BTW , I don't care :)

if ps3 wanted to see their sales increase they should stop selling ps2 that is what is really killing there sales
