Forums - Sony - Sony Won't Renew Formula 1 License Exclusivity

"Formula 1 isn’t exactly as popular as Nascar or Indy cars, but there is no denying that it is the premier motorsport event around the globe and it looks like Sony won’t be publishing any more Formula 1 game titles for no: Apparently, the gap between what Sony is willing to pay for a license and what Bernie Ecclestone’s company is demanding is too wide."

Formula 1 is now asking for a hefty increase, we hear, and as of now, Sony isn’t willing to agree. While there has been no announcement so far, industry sources told us that EA, Ubisoft and Codemasters may be in the running for the license of a new five-year contract.

While its definetly not in the same league as dropping GTA exclusivity, it is another series that will make its way to the other consoles and PC.

I love F1 and Im in America, so I have to watch it at 1 or 2 am on Sunday, because America is the bastion of red necks turning left.

I dont really see this game gripping the majority of the 360 crowd or being done on the Wii.

Computer could be interesting though.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

Well, I thought F1 on PS3 was good anyway lol. The driving was solid enough, as was the system of the grand prix, it was the things around those that were weak, especially the commentating which was God awful.

As has been said this doesn't mean that we won't get F1 on PS3 so I'm not that concerned, but there was talk of Polyphony Digital doing F1 - now that would have been a game. So it's a shame in that respect.

Can someone from the US explain NASCAR and Indie and not someone from Austria or Finland. Because for some reason I think they just know of the big races like Daytona 500 or Indie 500 and dont have a clue about other races.

sorry about the double post, but I just saw this.

NASCAR is a series where they take 1980s technology and call it high tech (their cars are still carberated for Christ sake) then they get in their car and turn left 2,000 times (four corners, 500 laps)

Sit back and... enjoy?

Indy is kind of like a cross of NASCAR and F1. Its Open wheeled racing for America, but all the cars are... Identicle I believe, that Im not sure about since Champ Car and Indy merged.

Anyways, stick with the WRC and F1, you have it better in europe when it comes to auto racing.

NJ5 - stop the trolling please!

OT: The games have never really been of any interest to me so not too bothered to hear this news!

Polyphony already has Ferrari onside in GTP... all the F1 teams (engines) already have street cars in the game so I'd be surprised if GT doesn't expand it's F1 offerings.

Just say, "I love crepes."

F1 is big in "Others" and "Japan", and they buy Sony anyway, so exclusivity isn't worth a price increase, probably.

That last F1 game had great visuals, but F1 isn't a big seller overall.
