Forums - Sony - Sony Won't Renew Formula 1 License Exclusivity

"Formula 1 isn’t exactly as popular as Nascar or Indy cars, but there is no denying that it is the premier motorsport event around the globe and it looks like Sony won’t be publishing any more Formula 1 game titles for no: Apparently, the gap between what Sony is willing to pay for a license and what Bernie Ecclestone’s company is demanding is too wide."

Formula 1 is now asking for a hefty increase, we hear, and as of now, Sony isn’t willing to agree. While there has been no announcement so far, industry sources told us that EA, Ubisoft and Codemasters may be in the running for the license of a new five-year contract.

While its definetly not in the same league as dropping GTA exclusivity, it is another series that will make its way to the other consoles and PC.

Also means Sony has more money to spend elsewhere.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Hmm I read it like weeks ago and I really don't feel sad for that. I never loved the F1 games much.

i played the demo for the F1 game that was on the PS3, it was awful. good riddance.

how was that an awful game? graphics were damn good, rain and weather was awesome, engine sounds were right on, never driven an f1 car but it felt as real as i could imagine i guess. its just not an american thing.

Come on Nintendo, Jump In!

Formula 1 on the N64 was class, since which Sony bought the licence and there hasn't been a proper F1 game on Nintendo since.

Also wtf! no way is Nascar as popular as F1, maybe in USA only but Europeans don't care about Nascar, and I don't even know what Indie car is?

Like 2 more years of over-developing Killzone 2...

Sony has their monetary priorities very wrong in this generation.

@TWRoO

I think they mean the Champ Car Series in NA. It appears this was written by an American, as obviously only we are important

I'll be glad if they bring a good F1 game to a Nintendo system. I haven't played one since the N64.

I'm also waiting for MotoGP to make it to a Nintendo system.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

YEEEEEESSSSSS! Finally we will have some decent F1 games again. Sony was poor with the liscence. Best F1 game was F1 world grand prix on the N64. Followed by GP3 on PC.
