If done right, it would split nothing. The nitendo fanboys would get both (they already own a ds anyway) while the casuals would stick with the ds. the new gameboy would mainly attract home console gamers that haven't bought a handheld this generation yet, which are also the target of the psp.

It seems very unncecessary to go on that venture now when all is going so well for Nintendo...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Around the Network

I don't think a new gameboy/ds is completely out of the question. GBA was released in 2001, and ds in 2004/2005. If they did announce one, it obviousl;y won't be out for a year or longer, doesn't that just work out right? However given the popularity of DS i don't think it's likely either.

the fact of the matter was the gameboy color was doing too well to release the gba when "they wanted to". i'd imagine if gbc wasnt doing too well we would have seen GBA in 1999. so i dont think we'll see a new handheld for like 5 more years, unless they make a ds/phone/next-gen handheld heh.

i wouldnt be suprised if the next gen nintendo handheld is a phone...i mean everyone has a celly..maybe too soon tho, possibly after this next gen.

I am WEEzY. You can suck my Nintendo loving BALLS!

there is 0% chance of Nintendo releasing a disc based console. That would remove all the advantages of the DS over the PSP. If a portable PS2 didn't sell, why the hell would a portable gamecube? It would be huge, have crappy battery life, long loading times, and share all the problems of the PSP but without the media capabilities. Nintendo are too intelligent to do something so moronically stupid

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I would hope the hardware revelation is some sort of hard drive and some new content services for the added capacity. Can't wait to find out though.

As for a possible next handheld we should be getting close to announcement or at least rumor time. However, Nintendo is dominating the handheld race so like the NES, Gameboy, and PS2 I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo stretches it out before releasing the next DS.

When it is finally revealed I'm pretty sure it will be somewhat more powerful than a Gamecube. Nintendo's hanhelds are always somewhat more powerful than 2 generations behind. So around 500-600MHz processor wouldn't be surprising (the Wii's CPU would use around 3W at that level, a more efficient design in 2-3 years would be even lower). I doubt it will be disc based, probably 1 or 2GB flash cards at first and 4 later. Pretty good considering the GameCube used 1.5GB disc.
