Seeing how the casuals vastly outnumber hardcore gamers, more and more games will be like Brain Training, Buzz, Scene it and Wiifit. Less games will be like DMC, MGS etc. It is very worrying.

My take on the matter is like what Dan Houser said "Fuck casual gaming!"

You show them! I long for the day when every game is as hardcore as Rockstar Table Tennis! Death to casual gamers and all who support them!

OMG, market expansion! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!

For those who love Grand Theft Auto and absolutely hate games like Carnivale Games here is something for you to consider ...

Because of increasing development costs and an inability to increase sales Take 2 has been in a horrible financial position for the past several years. Without releasing Carnivale Games to excellent sales (and massive profits due to its low development costs) Take 2 could have simply gone bankrupt before GTA4 was released (putting it into limbo), and/or been forced to release it months earlier (full of bugs) ...

As much as you hate the concept of these new gamers, they balance out the increasing cost of your beloved 'Hard-Core' games and the stagnant/slow growth of 'Hard-Core' gamers.

Ail...just think that 2 different products (GTA IV and WiiFit) that are able to enjoy very high sales at the same time proves very different products CAN coexist in this industry and also proves the industry,as a whole,is very healthy...don´t worry, there´s no "WiiFit will kill hardcore gaming"....we´re still getting our "Ninja Gaidens,DMCs,Gears Of War,Zelda,GTAs,Metal Gears,etc.."

Remember, things like WiiFit are aimed at expanding the industry, not out on a secret quest to destroy 'hardcore' gaming...what you call 'core' gaming isn´t going anywhere.

Seeing how GTA4 was such a dismal failure in sales, developers will have no choice but to retreat to building home exercise equipment built around the wii.

I'm wondering what Nintendo is going to do too to prevent an Atari like crash for the DS and the Wii developers.

With the success of those platforms you see a lot of shovelware being developed ( as well as some really good games) and it brings back old memories....

If you look at the DS, some segments are already saturated ( how many Brain training games do we really need ?).

And the longer they wait and the more shovelware they let out the harder it is for new good games to actually step their head out of the pack....

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

The PS2 was much worse than the DS, 80% of all PS2 games were total crap. It worked out pretty well, no?

The age of "cinematic" gaming is coming to end.

And not a second too soon.

There is no comparison to Atari, I'm not sure why people keep bringing up that analogy. Atari was sold to larger corporate entities that had totally screwed up the the original company. Maybe you should study why Atari failed instead of rewriting history.

I guess shovelware is officially the new "end of the Wii" argument. Any takers on what it'll be next?
