Forums - Gaming - Valve: "We're not PS3 developers"

Well wait until three years when PS3 outsells XBOX 360s userbase worldwide.

Doug Lombardi needs to lose weight?

He must've meant Gabe Newell.  He's not thin.

If the game is good, they will probably let someone else port it over.

Because Valve doesn't know how to use the SPEs on the Cell.  (see Orange Box....they didn't even bother.)

"Don't have the resources..."?  Yeah, fair enough.  Must be way tougher on you if your "philosophical" objection to Cell's assymetry keeps you from wanting to develop for it.  Whatever.

You do know that EAUK handled the PS3 version, don't you?   Like I said, Valve doesn't ahve the reouserces to do many games at one time.  So you insulted Vavle for a game they didn't even develop.  God job.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

"Valve's main marketer Doug Lombardi was on hand recently to show off the latest version of the awesome looking PC, 360 zombie shooter, Left 4 Dead. But PS3 is being left out of the loop.

Lombardi told us, "We're not PS3 developers"

Seriously the arrogance is laughable!!

Just because they couldn't figure out the Ps3 & Orange Box sold crap on Ps3!

He should get a diet first n then do Game Developing!

Reminds me a bit of the 3rd parties and the Wii situation; Xbox360 and DS are the only platforms not getting snobbed all the time, it seems...

I think everyone is kinda missing the point... Valve isn't a PS3 developer because they aren't a console developer.  They are a PC developer, and because of the 360's design being so close to PC they can toss a 360 port to a B-Team and get one out (or to EA like they did with Left4Dead) for minimal cost.

They aren't developing anything for consoles.  They are developing lots of PC games and giving short ports to consoles, but if you like Valve then get a PC.  You might as well complain about Nintendo not making PC games.  That's just not their area.

Not at all-- I don't care enough about the differences to keep my PC up to date. For things like TF2, Left4Dead, or any Valve game really, I want to play it on the PC but not so much other games.

I know my work PC can handle Left4Dead and I'm sure my home laptop can handle it on low settings but for the most part I don't care enough to keep a PC up to date enough that can run things like Gears, Bioshock, Mass Effect, or whatever the newest game is that will need the uber setup that I could just as easily play on the 360 or PS3.

Please, it takes very little maintenence to keep a PC playing multi-plat games. A new graphics card every couple years is more than enough to keep a PC running for an entire console generation. Multi-plats don't go up in System Reqs with time. Mass Effect has less system reqs than Bioshock.

Bingo.  To get multiplatforms you need only a PC strong enough to handle console games.

Come on twesterm, you could use some of the cash you make from selling off those PS3s that seem to fall from the sky into your lap for some newer PC hardware.

I'm pretty sure the only reason they make Xbox versions is because of how similar the arictecture is to PC. It's probably not worth their time to make many PS/Wii games do to the proft potential of steam.

When you use digital distribution you can make scandelous amounts of profits per game sold vs the traditional method.

After reading the whole thing you'll see that it's a little better than we don't like the PS3 so we're just not going to develop for it.

Wishful thinking?

Not really, just the opening post doesn't make it look like they aren't putting the game on the PS3 because they aren't sure how successful it will be and that there's still a chance it will come to the PS3.

Personally, I wouldn't buy this game for the PS3 and not even for the 360. PC is about the only way to go for all multiplatform PC games Valve games with me.

Fixed that for you.

See, I just don't like the added effort. I like a console because I can just pop in a disc and play (though that isn't always the case which is an entirely other issue with me). I know it doesn't cost a lot to keep a PC up to date to play these games but I just really hate going through the effort of researching what graphics cards, ram, and everything else I need, getting those things, installing them, installing the game, and making sure it's all patched up right. I like the ease of a console.

Now don't take all that as me crapping on the PC platform, I think the PC platform is great. It's just not for me.

-edit-

And WoW, I have only had 2 free PS3's and already used up the money I got from the second one.  :-p

Maybe I took Gabie's anti-Cell diatribes to be related to the no SPE use, when it was mere incompetance or lack of care on the part of others.  But then again maybe Valve just told the others to get the game out and not bother because teh c3ll suxxors, heh.  After Gabe's comments, I'll never lose my suspicions regarding Valve and the PS3.

God job indeed.  ;)

 EA ported it not valve.
