Perhaps no, but keep in mind that up until now MS showed less patience than the Japanese, although they at least realized that the little more than three years lifecycle they tried with XBox 1 is a suicide and this time they should make XBox 360 live at least five years, so at least until the end of 2010.
Well, Japan or not, this time, unless sales suddenly plummet, XBox 360 should quite easily sell more than 35 million units during its life, so MS should at least break even and try to compete also for the next gen, and this, with the danger of a MS monopoly warded off, Nintendo resurrected and a powerful leader, but not a monopolist, and Sony that isn't a near monopolist anymore, but learned a lesson and is starting faring well again, will be good for the users.
35 millions? I don't think so, I think that 30's the good number.
BTW when I said thah the 360's dead midd 2009, I was only speaking for japan! I think it will have a good career till the end in the US. And in europe ... bah when PS3 dropp at 299 ... this will be over for MS.
I really wonder what they're gonna try for their next console! Especially in japan!
| wareagle372 said: right now, 600,000 Xbox 360s are shipped in Japan with about 1,500-2,000 360s sold every week. Here is a MATHEMATICAL explaination of why it should sell one million in the end. there are 365 days in a year. Divide that by 7(the amount of days in a week) it equals alittle over 52 weeks in a year. Multiply that number by 1,700 a week ( this does not include big hitters released in Japan such as Blue Dragon 2), it is 88,400 consoles sold a year. They expect the generation to last at least 4 more years so multiply 4 by 88,400 which is 353,600. Add this number by the now which is 600,000, it equals 953,600 360s sold. Now include any big releases for the 360 in Japan such as Ninja Gaiden 2, Blue Dragon, and Cry On, this game has a HUGE shot at getting 1 million sold in Japan. |
You think the 360 will have a total lifetime of 6-7 years in Japan? With these sales?
I am SuperLloyd!
(Im)patiently awaiting the Dawn of the New World!
Wow so it would sell more than the Sega CD?, 3DO and the Xbox in Japan?
Awesome =p.
It really depends though how long it will be bought over there and what the next releases are.
I guess foreigners are buying a X360 over there. Transfer students, Japanologist, USA marines etc..

I don't think the 360 will last 4 MORE YEARS *echo* in Japan, but it should crack 1 million shipped. Its not like it only sells 1700 every week. Sometimes it hits 2,000-3,100. I don't know which games push hardware though. 360 in Japan will last in Japan til Mid-2010. Hopefully longer than that.
Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. " thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."
If only sales were constant like that eh. No as soon as Wii and PS3 get better software in later 2008 early 2009 timeframe, 360 sales will be similar to that of the original Xbox. In 3 figures if not less. You see in Japan 360 is different from every other territory. I mean everywhere else you could say anything all it has left is to go up. Well for 360 in Japan all it has left is to go down.
@Tremble
So you think that 360 after the end of the year will sell only 5 millions...
@Tremble
Xbox 360 will get at LEAST 30 million. 40 million is still in good range.

I think sometimes people forget how competitive the 360 actually is when you consider it's practically dead in one of the three main regions. The 360 is competing against the PS3 worldwide eventhough it has one market less.
