Forums - Gaming - Anyone un-impressed by this generation ?

Dude, this era has been amazing. What consoles have you been playing? Maybe you just chose the wrong one for your tastes.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Well,

PS3 - great hardware and good functions. Game lineup is getting stronger all the time. However, delays have been bad.

Xbox 360 - so far it has the best jRPGs this generation. I have one for all the Japanese development. Current game lineup is the best of all three consoles, but over the next year the console above will be getting more and more. Bad - always paranoid about it breaking, paying for online (which I refuse to do), and sounds like a jet engine with the DVD drive spinning so fast.

Wii - owned it for a month. It's currently on sale.  So far the gamecube provides just as much entertainment as this console.  I'll probably buy one again later, but I need to use $250 elsewhere.  A new Zelda game and I'm back.

For handhelds -

PSP - I'm progressively enjoying it more and more. Good games are finally coming out.

DS - It gets the job done. No strong feeling either way.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

You kidding me? The N64/PS1 era was by far the worst.

That's a path you best not go down Aj. There be dragons that way.

Seriously. Don't talk about the generation that brought us my favorite game of all time!

Had some great games, but so few at that. Most have sequels that make them forgotten now.

I would say Atari was better, considering what they accomplished with available resources.

I think there's plenty of fun to be had this generation with the consoles on offer , but I find this current gen underwhelming .SNES ERA =Super Wow N64 era = WoW , PS1 & PS2 Era = Wow , PS3 , 360 , Wii era = Um...

Maybe i'm less easily impressed because i'm older now , i'm not exactly sure. How do you feel about this generation ?

You must have a pretty good crystal ball to be able to look that far into the future to rate this generation as "um" or as I translate it, unimpressive.  Think you could look ahead a week and tell me the powerball numbers?

So far I have been disappointed by this generation the excellent games are few and fair between. Unlike previous generations there were plenty of excellent games being released all the time. The PS3 has lots of great features by being the most advanced console ever released but waiting for the killer software titles is a pain in the neck. Too many game delays is a concern.

@ Rock - Perhaps that feeling is a consequence of your console of choice?

If you look at all 3 consoles together, there's been no point in time in which we've been lacking for awesome games.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

To each their own but I am loving this gen so far.

Lately my interest in gaming started dwindling and if things remained the same there was a good chance a few years from now I'd stop gaming pretty much altogether. But the Wii has revitalized my passion for gaming. People can trash it as a gimmick all they want but there are some true gems already out for it that remind me why I enjoy this business from the beginning and that giddy feeling I got back when I was a little kid playing those first games is back.

And then for the HD consoles... I don't have one yet but there are several titles calling out to me that I can't resist for long. GTA IV stands a good chance of being one of the highest rated games of all time when all the reviews stop pouring in. If Kojima actually means it this time and MGS4 is the end, then it will be the end of an era and probably go out with a solid bang.

I think part of the problem is some people love to look back at older generations and dwell upon the nostalgic memories which are overwhelming. As many great memories as I've had with my SNES, 64, DC, etc.... I'm enjoying the hell out of the present and can't wait to see what's coming up.

Anyone sick of these "This is a crappy generation" threads?

OT: You may not be quite excited because alot of the games out this generation, especially the bigger ones are sequels. GTA4, Halo 3, SSBB, etc.

Me personally, I like it better than past generations because my console can do more than just play games.

Also, you have to remember that this generation is far from over. Some studios have yet to strike. Team ICO? There will be good games, but since everyone is doing well, they will not be all concentrated on one system like last gen. The PS2 gen was so good for me.

I'm stoked by my Wii. Using it heaps more than any console, ever in the past.

I'm also stoked that it gets a lot of use by family and friends - no other console could ever do this.

WiiSports is also an awesome game, and a real revolution.
