Forums - Gaming - How Good was the Sega Dreamcast?

Considering the short life time. Most modern consoles are pathetic in comparison to the dreamcast. It had so many good games in such a short amount of time. I wish it had survived. A lot of the games lived on in the xbox but the loss of the dreamcast seemed to break Sega. They lost the magic when they lost the Dreamcast and they still haven't gotten it back. Its going to take a lot more then mario and sonic to prove to me that Sega is back in form.

if consoles was taken into a religious sense, the DC was Jesus Christ himself.

That is the greatest post ever.

Loved playing Sonic on it.
It was a great console.

For those of you who may not have played PSO when it came out for the dreamcast, Sega hosted servers so you could connect back in the day with your amazing 56k modem. It was epic. Anyway they took off the servers after a year and a half, and everything afterwards required money.

Yeah I'd still pick up a DC now, especially for $35 bucks. Heck you get a system slightly more powerful then the ps2 for that price with alot of quality games that you won't see much of anymore. I think the DC continued to cater to the old school Japanese gaming fan (look at all the great arcade games on that system) while the ps2, xbox and gamecube went a different direction, kind of evolved with the direction gaming was going. And by saying that I'm also completely wrong, as Kasz216 said, it truly was ahead of it's time with online gaming (PSO first MMO on a console) among other things (great controller as well). Basically I feel the DC was a revolutionary system that still had a bit of it's heart in the days of 16bit(not a bad thing). The Dreamcast is the last of it's breed, would be a shame to have missed out on an important part of gaming's timeline. It still makes me sad thinking of this, boy what I wouldn't give to see Sega return to dominance. Hope that made sense to someone, cause I went all over the place there, sorry got a bit of a head cold.

Wait, the DC was more powerful than the PS2? Seriously? That doesn't seem possible. Also, I would love to see a Sega resurgence as well, they were so good at what they did, it's a shame.

Either that or the emotion engine was even harder to program for than is given credit... cause the early multiplatform games were largely in Dreamcasts favor graphics wise.

Short answer, just buy it. As you can see, not even one person in this topic had anything bad to say about the Dreamcast, and all are in unison that it's worth the small asking price. Now tell me the last time all of us agreed on the same thing. Don't worry, i'll wait.

Sega Dreamcast was the easiest console to pirate games.

The Dreamcast was as good as it gets, its games were incredible and it'll be always worth buying.

Yeah, looks like you guys made my decision for me, lol! Seegaaaaaaaaa! One of the best sounds ever. Anybody else have fond Segatastic memories?

I did, I had the console, I loved but I sell it after some time, great games and graphics for that time
