Losing is losing. In 2 years, when 360 clearly has a smaller installed base than the PS3, well, it will be a fact and MS will be called a loser as it should. No way to spin that.
For some people here, to be considered a winner with the PS3, Sony would need to overcome a full year head start without competition in only 4 years of sales (versus 5 for its competitor, 25 % more time, nice challenge), versus a much cheaper competitor ? Okaaaaaay, I guess it's really fair. Still, it's possible they'll do it somehow. Oh the irony.

It's not damage control whatsoever. What you just said sounds like playground wars.
If the 360 can manage to be even in userbase come 2011 (and that's writing Natal off completely) it really WON'T matter to anyone but fanboys. The userbases will be big and equal enough for the Xbox to still get all the multiplats it's getting now.
|
Then we could stop talking about console wars 1 or 2 years ago since it's been sure for a while that multiplats would always be on both HD twins.
Losing a gen is losing a gen. If PS3 sells more this gen than the 360, PS3 wins and so does Sony. And MS loses. Facts.
Nobody cares if it happens in 2010 or in 2012. Stupid spin is stupid.
|
If Microsoft was in Sony's position last year, 8 million units behind. I guarentee you they would not be getting the multiplats they are now.
If PS3 sells more this gen the fanboys will win the pissing war, and in userbase yes sony would have won VS Microsoft. Profits though? Microsoft will win there handily. To Microsoft, and the shareholders, that's all that matters.

You and I know nothing about future profits for Sony or MS unless you've got a crystal ball.
And look, MS survived the Xbox 1 fiasco and its billions of losses, then the RROD fiasco, so I guess Sony is ok.
|
Yeah and Sony will survive this, never said they wouldn't. I don't need a crystal ball, all I have to do is look at last Q's profits/losses. $350+ mill profit for the 360 division, $650+ mill loss for the PS3 division. This Q is likely to see both those figures rise (- for Sony)
ANother thing to note, the first Xbox was to get a foothold in the market. It was always very unlikly they would make a profit, even so at this point in it's life. It was making a profit.
