Yeah I just re-read it and realized it sounds like I was.  My mistake,

Apologies.

I posted this another thread this thought.

Dvd9 has far less storage space than Blu-ray. 100% truth no arguement there right. Now my understanding (and logically so) is that compression algorithims do take a smidge of processing power and (erhaps) time to load and activate. This could explain the reason for the pop-in issues in many of their games.

As far as I can discern the only way to fix this issue is to start putting in Blu-ray drives. If MS does do this and they add this x-mote controller that's been rumored they pretty much affirm that Sony and Nintendo make a better console than them.

It's sort of like what happened with the Genesis, they had a clear lead in the console war that gen and blew it by adding a Sega Cd and 32x add-ons. It made their console seem inferior to Ninty's.

God I sincerely hope that happens. :P

Funny, I would have considered the PS3 version of GTAIV to be the most direct competitor that GTAIV 360 had........

lol dude, it's not this kind of competition. Oh come on, it's the same damn game

Well then what kind of competition is it?

Oh i don't know why i'm posting that. It's obvious and you know it. But...

Competition is other games, other companies. Rockstar is getting money from both versions of GTA no matter which is better.

So IGN basically based this on PS3 download and 360 game not downloaded. And IGN seem to not know you can download to 360 HDD. So I would like to know if you have a 360 HDD would that stop the pop in as it wouldnt load as much from disc?

are 100% sure that the 360 version allows disc caching? please tell me you're not talking out of you arse again, it's really starting to smell around here.

Here you are. Since your head is obviously in between your legs(hence your smell) http://xbox360.qj.net/More-GTA-4-rumors-5-minute-install-times-Xbox-360-DLC-features/pg/49/aid/118403 What do you know.

Dude... the word "rumor" is even in the link itself. Of course the 360 version will cache to the hard drive (if there is one) while it's going but there's no direct installation like there is on the PS3. Are you honestly trying to get us to believe that IGN (a site that, like many, is usually slanted against the PS3) is giving the 360 version the shaft when it comes to the biggest game of the year? Especially since they're not alone (the latest issue of EGM).

The fanboy tears are going to be hot and bitter.

To all those considering getting the PS3 version over the 360 one. Take note. In the past, IGN has given DIFFERENT scores to DIFFERENT versions of a game when it was better on one console than it was on another.

In this case, each game got a perfect 10, meaning any differences must be so negligible that they are virtually unnoticeable.

Content is king, and the Xbox 360 version will have more content.

The rationalizations have begun. If they were negligible or virtually unnoticeable, I think his language would have been quite a bit different.

The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in.

Far less != negligible or virtually unnoticeable.

No, but 10=10=negligible or virtually unnoticeable.

Wait.  So you don't think that the PS3 GTAIV and the 360 GTAIV are in competition with eachother?

starcraft, read the review carefully. From IGN:

"...While GTA IV is pushing the PS3 and 360 to the limit, it also runs amazingly well. Sure, there are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in, but it actually runs better than I expected...

For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.

A "10" is not a score we give out very often. In fact, the last time we gave a 10 to a console game was Soul Calibur in 1999. A 10 doesn't mean a game is perfect -- it means a game is pushing boundaries, expanding a genre, and doing many things to a level so far above and beyond its competitors that they overshadows any flaws. Certainly, GTA IV has some issues, the most noticeable being the occasional flaw in the cover system, but there are many more pieces of GTA IV that are better than anything I've seen from a game in the past decade. We don't give 10s often -- just to games that merit the score."

Of course not, they don't have to beat each other. They just need to sell
