Forums - Gaming - the differences according to ign. ps3 and 360 versions of gta4

starcraft, read the review carefully. From IGN:

"...While GTA IV is pushing the PS3 and 360 to the limit, it also runs amazingly well. Sure, there are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in, but it actually runs better than I expected...

For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.

A "10" is not a score we give out very often. In fact, the last time we gave a 10 to a console game was Soul Calibur in 1999. A 10 doesn't mean a game is perfect -- it means a game is pushing boundaries, expanding a genre, and doing many things to a level so far above and beyond its competitors that they overshadows any flaws. Certainly, GTA IV has some issues, the most noticeable being the occasional flaw in the cover system, but there are many more pieces of GTA IV that are better than anything I've seen from a game in the past decade. We don't give 10s often -- just to games that merit the score."

Lol, ironically, most of the bits you didn't highlight offered either compliments or qualifications of their criticisms of the 360 version.

Copied from another thread:

Review scores arn't relative to what could be done in the future, but to the best competition that exists at the time of the review.  If they each received 10, there can't be a discernible difference between the two, as they would be measured relative to eachother.

What I'm saying is simply this.  I don't think I'm in damage control at all, because with a 10 out of 10 review, there is no damage to mitigate.  However, I think Sony fans are still quite desperate to mitigate the damage done by Microsoft gaining exclusive DLC.  Right now, both games have a score of ten.  But the 360 version is the only one that has the potential for future improvement......

It's paramount that my GTAIV experience be perfect. If the ps3 version has better performance and visuals I'll get that version. Regardless, Wednesday can't get here soon enough.

LOL! You're in denial. The PS3 version is better. Read the last paragraph. They say the game deserves the perfect score, even if it still has flaws. The PS3 version will get Home intergration and possibly get DLC.

Please, you didn't just go there.  You didn't compare the game's online capabilities and integration?

Now I'm in denial, I cannot believe a Sony fan just played that card.

Look at it this way.  10=10=no discernible difference.

You said the 360 is the only one with potential with future improvement, but I disagree. The PS3 *will* get DLC and Home intergration. Those are two improvements from the original game release. Take off them fanboy googles and accept reality that the PS3 version runs and looks better, hence better version. I bet you if this was the other way around, you would've been shoving this all over the Sony forums.

And for the last time, IGN gave it a 10 because it deserves it, even though it has flaws. Read that last paragraph.

Considering the 360 GTA4 does not even come with online play out of the box i think Sony wins this hands down.

It does if you already paid your $50 per year to Live. /sarcasm

Your not seeing this the way it is, your seeing it the way you want to see it.  The game almost certainly already has home integration.  I bet people with Alpha access will have GTAIV home integration come Tuessday.  But to say that Home integration will come anywhere near the service Live offers is ridiculous.

I will say again.  The part that YOU BOLDED says that all scores are relative to competition.  So the 360 deserves a ten EVEN relative to the PS3 version which means there cannot possibly be a significant difference between the two.  Either way, we'll see when GT releases a comparison.

You are confusing me with you. Anyways, I did NOT say that Home will come close to anything Live offers. You said that the 360 version is the only one with potential to get improvements, which I disagree because of the things I previously said. I didn't say it will be close to it or better than Live.

And read the last freaking paragraph of the review!
