What are the different types of RPGs and what's the difference between them? Like, how does a jRPG and a non-Japanese RPG differ?
Jrpgs are more linear, more focused on the story, and aren't usually as free roaming as a western rpg or wrpg.

Typically they also have a set path for character development so characters in JRPGs tend to end up how the devloper envisons them. Where as in WRPGs the character development path is typically left almost entirly to the user.

Another acronym for you CRPG originally used for Computer RPG now more used as Console RPG. The industry loves acronyms.

they also have anime and manga characteristics

@RPG_Fanatic-When i say graphics, gameplay and story im referring to Blu-Ray and its capacity which will make the stories longer, the environments bigger and the PS3 has the most capable graphics engine when optimized so CG quality gameplay.

Seeing as most JRPGs sell well only in Japan and Wii is the dominant console this generation, I expect more than 50% of JRPGs to land on the system. I am certain DQX will make it to the Wii when it's due time...

Sorry but the next DQ game in the series is coming out for the DS.

Let's go together...

Last installment on PS2      -> Dragon Quest VIII (8)

Next installment on DS       -> Dragon Quest IX (9)

What I'm talking about Wii -> Dragon Quest X (10)

@redspear-then get the system the games are coming on,some fan you are!

it's quite rare for series going back in visual terms, escpecially a main series installment, but DQ seems to do it with IX going to the DS

Yes the Wii will be ahead of all genres except for FPS and racers exclusives.

Why does graphics make the deciding factor anyway? The PS2 was the weakest system last gen, yet had all the major FFs. If you optimize the graphics, the Wii can produce very stunning visuals. The HD audience will be disappointed but the average gamer will not care. Personally the graphics between the best looking PS3 and Wii game will not persuade a developer to give away the amount of profit that will be made between releasing it on PS3 rather than Wii.

You do realize all those things cost more money, right? Just because the storage capacity doubles does not mean suddenly the story's length doubles, too. Take a look at Heavenly Sword, which had the benefit of Blu ray. How long was that game?

and the PS3 has the most capable graphics engine when optimized so CG quality gameplay.

What engine is that, exactly? You mean Crystal Tools which is now meant to be multiplatform.
