Forums - Gaming - Do you expect the Wii to end up being THE JRPG console this gen?

No, PS3 will be the main platform in the end. I'll never consider the WII to be a serious platform for serious and most of all "good" produced RPG games unless its Nintendo themselves creating it.

and me.

onna76, it won't gonna happen because japanease developers don't have money to make hd graphic in games. besides most jrpgs and typical japanease style games(anime based, pachinko etc.) were never released outside japan. so how they can make games for right now a dead system on the japanease market with highest development costs? japan chose already their console - wii. most developers will be making games exclusively for wii or for wii/ps2, because low development costs and huge audience similar to japanease ps2 audience(but with more typical casual players).

waron: Final Fantasy games may sell more in Japan than the US or Others, but it does not sell more in Japan than both combined. Final Fantasy sells well everywhere.

Ajax: I'm sorry I ignored this thread because you badly need support against people that don't seem to understand basic ideas.

Since FF7, Square likes to impress with visuals. It is part of how they like to tell stories. The more powerful the system is, the more you can do with whatever your artistic style is. Those that don't think the power of a console effects art style need to look at some Atari games. You are just kidding yourself.

The N64 could not handle FF7. They had too many FMVs for catridges. They would have needed too many catridges to fit in a box. For its time, FF7 was fantastic looking.

Money: putting FF7 on PS1 was about money. They could not have made their masterpiece on N64.

After FF13 comes out and sells millions in every region, the fan base for Square on PS3 will be large. If Last Remnant is successful, then perhaps the 360 also gets FF14 (if it even comes out this generation). However, to think Square's FF team is suddenly going to sacrafice visuals enough to go with last-gen visuals that the Wii produces is just not understanding what they like to do with FF games now. Many developers like to push visuals. Just ask the Ninja Gaiden developer. Yes, money also factors in which is why the Xbox never got FFX or FF12, but the PS2 was nowhere near as far as the Wii is.

I'll be happy this time next year when all the big third party games are still being announced for the PS3 and 360, because by then maybe we'll stop hearing this excuse that the games have been in development forever and that's the only reason they aren't on the Wii.

I very much look forward to many series on the Wii, and it very well could get a lot of RPGs (such as Suikoden and DQ that don't push visuals as much), but like many genres, I also enjoy games that push visuals and so do developers. I'll never understand all you Wii fanboys that don't want videogames to advance visually. You can do a lot with art style but the more power you have the more you can do.

GT developers, Hideo Kojima of MGS, Itagaki of NG, the Final Fantasy team, and many others like to push visuals. What's wrong with that? Why can't we keep moving forward graphically?

QFFT. Took the words right out of my mouth.

For FFX, it sold 7.95 mil. total, 3.02 mil from Japan (37 % of sales). 63% are still from international customers.

Just an observation - all the Wii fanboys on sales sites like these don't seem to be the biggest fan of the games themselves.

If we are going to go by install base as the only factor, everything with almost out any exception should have been on the DS by now.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

There are very few exceptions to the rule (FF and pokemon being the main ones) but in general JRPGs do very well in Japan and rather poorly elsewhere. This means Japanese developers have to look at the userbase in Japan and decide which console is strongest. Luckily for them this is easy as the Japanese are very decisive people, every generation they pick their winner quite definitively. This time around it is the Wii, just look at the sales, it is the only area where the Wii is absolutley dominating without any real competition.

So yes, Wii will dominate JRPGs this generation. FF games may be an exception because they sell well away from Japan.

6000 PS3's a week does add up you know.

Anyway, apparantly Wii fanboys aren't fans of games...

You made me lol Mr.[generalizer extraordineer] your ability to
shoot down any opposition in logic with anecdotal ignorance
has completed hour on this thread, thanks.

Because Wii fanboys apparantly don't play games and don't like games
so they just go around saying man I wish FF13 was on the Wii because
they aren't fans of games.

Is that trolling? Cause it felt like it.

It would probably take a series of mergers or an incentive program to get smaller development houses in japan to put full force into the PS3.

If I read a past article correctly Xbox360 only takes games that are native 720p.

and the Wii is SD, by way of development the price point is there, the user base is there, the budget potential can be met, the appreciation for ones work can be met, the long term sollution to their companies can be found. I don't think that has to be argued anymore.

Square Enix is another case, they already said their gearing for the Wester Audience, but should Wiifit do what it's quite capable of doing, the world of gaming is going to be turned inside out and what was norm will fall everywhere.

Note that PSx was RPG centric due to it gearing towards the RPG crowd back then, Wii geared towards everyone, it's not going to be RPG centric though it may have the most of them on it, quite similar to the PS2 but with less emphasis on a particular genere than even that platform.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
