Forums - General - Netflix: Blu-ray costs more, so we will charge more

I guess none of you mind paying more, I guess that's your choice.

But now that the war is over, disc prices are going up, player prices are going up, and now rental prices are going up.

That's progress right?

Disc prices have been the same... player prices are the same. wtf are you talking about?

Sony Blu-ray Burner has stayed at $599 since it launched 4 months ago but its the only real 4X burner on the market.

Players $389 to $648 ($648 model is the HD/DVD and Bluray combo drive), so still holding the same price as before and most of the are newer models.

A price drop is expected this summer to $299 and below.

Actually, no I'm serious.  I really don't want to pay the dollar more and there are probably a good 100 movies in my queue that I only put on their because they were on BluRay and I don't want to go back through it and clean it out.  So yeah, fuck them, I'm just going to cancel my subscritption.

Twesterm

Seriously? Over a buck or two?

Sheesh.

I'm not richie rich, but I wouldn't cancel a subscription over 1-2 bucks.

Disc prices going up?  I don't think so.

Player prices going up?  The PS3 is still $400 bucks, the only (and cheapest) BD 2.0 player.

Rental prices going up?  Yes, but no one is hurting for one or two bucks.

Progress being made?  Yes, but at a minimal price.

  1.  I'm cheap
  2. I was considering caceling my account anyways since I don't have as much as I'd like to watch the movies.
Now I actually have a reason to cancel my account.  I'll probably finish Scrubs and then cancel it.

Wecome the the world of Blu-ray win.

http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9924836-1.html

Bad news today for home theater fans: Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said on a conference call that because Blu-ray discs cost more to purchase, the company plans on charging a premium on accounts that rent Blu-ray movies. Hastings said "consumers are used to paying more for high-definition," but with Blu-ray renters making up only a small percentage of Netflix subscribers, this certainly won't help spur adoption.

Previous to this announcement, videophiles have pretty much gotten a free-ride on renting higher-priced high-definition media, as Netflix offered both HD DVDs and Blu-ray discs to subscribers for no additional charge over a standard subscription--until Netflix stopped offering HD DVDs in February. Netflix continues to offer the ability to watch some movies online ("Watch Now") at no additional charge, but the selection is still pretty limited at this point (check out our hands-on from last year).

360 and PS3 games cost 10$ more than PS2 and Xbox games.

Your point ?

Movies don't have multiplayer.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

Gotta pay extra for the best...

You pay extra if you want a TV with HDTV
You pay extra if you want 1080p
You pay extra if you want a bigger size HDTV
You pay extra for wireless
You pay extra for portability
You pay extra for something better/powerful
You pay extra for CD from VHS
You pay extra for DVD from CD
You pay extra for BluRay from DVD

Bigger, Better, Power, or Portability always means more $, This is just common knowledge in any industry

Did you cancel your cable once you figured out that getting the HD channels costed more?
