Not sure, but humanity loses.

Only speaking about the last part of your message, i get where you're coming from with GTA 4 and 5 not boosting hardware sales all that much, but GTA 6 is a much, much bigger release than even GTA 5 ever was, and while i don't think it's gonna revert the decline by itself, i do think there's gonna be a huge boost of console sales during at least 3 months

You wouldn't think they'd have it in them after the speech that said the PS5 was past it's prime and the trajectory would only go down.
But the fumbles of their closest competitor(especially in the US), the launch of the PS5 Pro and good deals during the holiday season made them a ton during the most profitable time of the year !

Now, looking at how they dealt with Q4 last year, I wonder if we're in for a somewhat quite muted one in shipped sales again. It's gonna reach that 18M with certainty at least.
Then there's the whole debate about next year's games template. We're quite advance in the generation and most software isn't gonna push hardware in the same vein as it did by the beginning of this generation.

I know people wants GTA VI to be the VG sacred savior for the industry and upheld the declining sales of the currents consoles.
But two things are more likely imo :

1) GTA VI will miss it's late 2025 target release. (The absence of any marketing since the reveal leads me to believe so)

2) While it's likely to push a significant amount of hardware, at least during it's launch month. It's not gonna reverse the current decline, nor are the numbers gonna beat any kind of records.

Historically, people had the same thoughts over how games like GTA IV and GTA V were gonna lead to huge gain in hardware sales during their release. This did not happen and I feel like people current sentiment would've only felt valid during the early years of this generation when the install base was still building itself up.

Don't even think it really matters anymore. There's a reason both companies switched to focusing on MAUs and that's because that's what's more important now. Tons of people are still on PS4 and I bet a lot of them will just upgrade straight to PS6. I expect PS5 and PS6 to essentially have all the same games and nothing to be left behind. Console IMO will now become just like PC where you can upgrade your PC if you want but it doesn't matter as long as you're in the ecosystem whether that's PS4/PS5/PS6.

It was a good quater! Why would anyone downplay this fact?! No need to shit on other persons! Did I shit on anyone when the Switch crushed 150 million in record timing? Yes 9,5 million is very good. It will be the peak quater. The only thing that amuses me is why everyone is giving so much credit to GTA VI. Yes it will probably have the highest launch numbers off all time and the PS5 version will be BY FAR the best selling version (also FAR better than the PC version will be when it launches). But asuming it could drive HW numbers to insane hights when we all know the game is multiplattform to me seems to be a bit wishfull thinking. Its like saying that Xbox would celebrate a huge comeback when we even know MS does not care about hardware anymore! The Series is getting outsold by an 8 years old handheld thats about to be replaced regulary. I think the Series will not even outsell Switch 2 when GTA VI launches! 1 week maximum and even thats being optimistic...

GTA VI is going to be massive for hardware.

It'll essentially do what College Football 25 did but on a even higher scale.

9.5 millions in the last quarter.

It would be good to know how those millions had been shipped by regions, Sony.

I always have that feeling Sony does strange things when they panic to sell everything is alright in the media. But ok, 9.5 millions.

They sell more than 9.5m in a quarter..... and your take is "sony does strange things when they panic to sell everything is alright" ??

Are they (sony) doing badly? If they didn't have stock issues the first 2 years, they would be ahead of the PS4 is launch aligned.
(they are like 1.5m below atm.... but GTA alone could fix that)

Also... in 2024, the PS5 sold like 20.2m units to the xsx/s's ~4m units.
(if your outselling your competition by a factor of 5.... last year.... why would you be in panic mode, trying to sell "everything is alright"?)

Except its not multi platform...   Its Playstation and Xbox exclusive for ~1,5-2 years.
And not everyone has a PC that can run a game that looks like it.... while alot of people want to play a new GTA.
(so even when its out on pc, it'll likely still benefit consoles for a few years to come)

Its obviously going to push hardware, there is no reason to think otherwise.

Lets say GTA adds ~20% more sales to both consoles.
Xbox instead of doing 4m, goes onto sell 4.8m instead in 2025.
PS5 instead of doing 20.2m goes onto sell 24m instead in 2025.

Thats basically the "pushes hardware" stuff we re talking about.... don't expect miracles from 1 game.
However, you shouldn't ignore or write off its effect either.

Thats what i mean. I don't know what people expect? GTA V sold record numbers at launch but HW was down ~33% YoY despite GTAV. I know vgchartz. Don't say anything bad about PS (or PC😉😘) don't say something positive avout Xbox and (at least) don't show you like Nintendo or you get mobbed out! And if you say the truth about something the masses don't want to hear you get minus. But they do not say nothing. Its not that death or life depends on that, no?🤣😂

GTA V came out at the end of the PS3/360 lifecycle just a few months before the start of the next generation. Not exactly the best comparison.

It's not that serious lol. I apologize if that offended.

But you did spin the 9.5 million shipment into a negative by telling someone "but it's still a decline" in an article. It's like you two just can't help yourselves. You tend to interpret or predict or spin everything Playstation negatively.

And you have a habit of misreading posts and making strawman arguments which you're doing it again here. No one said GTA6 will "drive hardware numbers to insane heights" Why do you keep exaggerating and saying things that aren't true? Or do you consider going up year over year "insane heights"?

We had our small talks before about GTA6's impact so I'm not going to repeat myself here and derail the thread. But again, I didn't mean to offend.

4,8 m. instead of 4 m. is quite realistic. 24 instead of 20,2? Maybe 23 but 24 is a bit much. People who want GTA VI, will be buying consoles now.

"Exclusive" means if a game releases on one plattform only. Is God Of War Ragnarök "exclusive" despite the fact it still released on PC? I don't think we should call GTA VI "exclusive" if it does not release on 1 plattform only.

By the time GTAVI comes out you will get PCs that run the game sufficiantly for about 2k. GTAVI is a great looking game (i will get it as well on my SeX, even the Collectors Edition like i got with GTA V!) but not a graphical Benchmark like games f.e. Uncharted 2, or Gears Of War where back in 2009 and 2006. You won't need a high end PC to run the game.
