I agree it is VERY unlikely PS5 will reach Switch sales. This will probably be one of the comparisons I drop once we start doing Switch 2 comparisons.

PS5 vs Wii Sales Comparison - December 2024

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Wii.

In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold the Nintendo Wii by 1.38 million units. The Nintendo Wii is ahead of the PlayStation 5 by 10.89 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 71.03 million units in 50 months, while the Nintendo Wii sold 81.92 million units. Month 50 for the PlayStation 5 is December 2024 and for the Nintendo Wii it is December 2010.

The Nintendo Wii crossed 90 million units sold worldwide in month 61 and 100 million in month 85. The Nintendo Wii sold 101.63 million units lifetime. The PS5 is 30.60 million units behind lifetime Wii sales.

Switch vs DS Sales Comparison - December 2024

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in November 2004 in North America, December 2004 in Japan, and March 2005 in Europe, while the Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 7.29 million units. The DS is ahead of the Switch by 2.60 million units.

The 94th month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is December 2024, while for the DS it is August 2012. The Switch has sold 148.79 million units, while the DS sold 151.39 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo DS sold 154.02 million units lifetime. The Nintendo Switch is currently 5.23 million units behind the lifetime sales of the DS.

... I think it may be a good time to consider the question of if X|S data is quite overtracked?

IF these data keep to be true or near truth, then even the most optimistic calculation of X|S sell-through as of December 31st, 2024 would be at 28m units max (if X|S didn't sell 1m units in December globally).

In the last 12 months, the Xbox One has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 4.17 million units. The Xbox Series X|S is currently behind the Xbox One by 6.40 million units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 32.17 million units in 50 months, while the Xbox One sold 38.57 million units. Month 50 for the Xbox Series X|S is December 2024 and for the Xbox One is December 2017.

The Xbox One crossed 40 million in month 53, 45 million in month 62, and 50 million in month 71. The Xbox One has sold 57.96 million units lifetime. The Xbox Series X|S is 25.79 million units behind lifetime Xbox One sales.

Those are estimates and the previous estimates of 77M from Take-Two through 2023 were later adjusted up to 81M. Plus it says November 2024 and it doesn't say when in November. Ther are also other places with estimates of 33M sold for Xbox Series through the end of 2024. We are more in the middle of the different places that have done estimates. And when figures finally leaked we had undertracked the Xbox One by nearly 8M. If we ever get official sales numbers from Microsoft we will adjust our own estimates to match. 

Oh, no worries, that's why I specifically wrote "to consider the question". Considering something is step 1, right? If you'd consider something at all.

But I must admit that I am a bit surprised by the range of your answer. I wasn't talking about Xbox One. It's done & history and I remember that some of the more recent news after the Xbox One rather doubted its 58m figure, instead claiming it too be too high.

But again, that's a different topic.

I am just surprised that by all the little information we/you get about the Series sales (and you do a fantastic job with your estimations nonetheless, please don't get me wrong), that you strangely now rather choose to dismiss MORE information available, which are so hard to get in the first place.

Personally, in my own estimates and you know there are a bunch of people here working with and honoring your data efforts, I couldn't calculate how it was possible for the X|S to have reached 30m units by December 31st, 2024, pure mathematically speaking, by their fiscal reports alone. Supported by the data from Aldora Intelligence and now T2.

But then again, this is no big deal - wether you put it at 32m and I say it's 29.1m at maximum, it doesn't really matter. But many of us, not just you, are addicted to numbers, and that's why it may come accross as an attack against you, which of course it is not. I am visiting your site for quite some time now and always find good words about you and your team.

In the last 12 months, the PS5 has grown its lead over the PS3 by 4.82 million units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 24.23 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 71.03 million units in 50 months, while the PlayStation 3 sold 46.81 million units. Month 50 for the PlayStation 5 is December 2024 and for the PlayStation 3 is December 2010.

The PlayStation 3 did not reach current PlayStation 5 sales until month 74 when it had sold 73.46 million units.

The PlayStation 3 crossed 50 million in month 54, 60 million in month 62, and 70 million in month 73. The PlayStation 3 sold 87.4 million units lifetime. The PS5 is 16.37 million units behind lifetime PS3 sales.

Once we start doing Switch 2 estimates the plan for now is to do 5 comparisons. Unless anyone has suggestions for comparisons they want to see.
