Forums - Gaming - The PSP could connect to a TV, does that make it a home console?

Well, now that was easy. Usually someone tries to keep up a pretence when they create a troll thread, but I suppose you are pretty exhausted by now.

First you say that the Super Game Boy was just an SNES cartridge and can't function alone, then right afterwards you call it a true hybrid system. At that point you either suffer from severe brain damage or you are trolling; there are no other options left. But since your mind was clear enough to dodge the main portion of my post which you can't argue against, the brain damage option can be ruled out too.

You are a troll, plain and simple.

I think this is the most likely scenario.

I've posted about 25-35  times in this thread. I'm happy with how I've conducted myself but of course those who are unhappy are free to report me, and if the mods are unhappy with the thread they can close the thread.

I'm not going to report some lighthearted trolling. I don't mind it.

Not trolling. It's just that the very weak counter arguments to my original point failed, then ganging up on me failed. Now people are resorting to calling me a troll to smear me and defame my character.

24 pages in an I am still trying to work out the end aim of this discussion lol.

Is it to say Switch shouldn't be compared to PS2 sales as it's portable or is it to troll?

If we going to stretch bows at extra functions, why not stretch the PS2 to be a DVD player (so cut out some "console sales" or Sony's much higher failure rate compare to Nintendo consoles so having to buy extra units.

At the d of the day it would appear most thee gaming community have accepted it's a hybrid.

It's not a troll thread. If it was it would have been banned by now. The point was to prove how hypocritical everyone is being towards the switch and other handheld devices. The switch gets to qualify as a hybrid because it can be played on a TV, but the Sega Nomad/PSP/Steam deck/ROG ally don't. Total elitism towards one platform and total dismissal towards the others. Worst gaming hypocrisy I've seen

The PS2 games were stored on DVD's so it had to be a DVD player to function as a games console.

Nonsense, it could have been a gaming console only. Wii and WiiU games are on DVDs but their focus was games only. Sony's main existence is to sell medium for people to watch TV and MOVIES, gaming come later. They will always ensure their game consoles double up for that purpose.

The fact is Sony uses gimmicks like that to move more consoles, and I have no issue with it. To say that PS2 is the best selling console because it was only a game machine is to b naïve. Many sued it as a chap DVD player du to V players costing too much.

Lol I didn't mean to defame your character. I really did think you were trolling and didn't mean any offense when I said it. But I guess I just completely disagree with your thoughts on this subject so much that it makes more sense to me that you were trolling than actually believing your own arguments.

Which is fine. You're probably a good guy either way.

And the Wii can play DVDs. They are only softlocked out. Nothing that Letterbomb homebrew could not fix.

The PS2 had one of the highest software to hardware attach rates in console history, and that's without counting the millions of pirated games (millions of gamers, including several on VGChartz, bought zero games on it because they had it modded, which artificially skews towards weaker tie ratios). Whoever bought it "for the DVD player" ended up buying games on it.

It's widely considered the best console of all time, and it did not dominate due to DVDs.

I'll chime in again.

OP, technically you are right, Switch is not a hybrid, it's a handheld. Technically.

There's this thing with PCs that's been around for decades called "mobile workstation" of "desktop replacement computer (DTR)" - basically just a laptop, but usually larger, bulkier and more powerful. Nowhere near as portable as standard laptops. Nowhere near as powerful as proper desktop.

That in the nutshell is what Switch is when it comes to consoles - handheld built to serve as home console as well. It's neither very good handheld, due to very limited battery life and bulkiness, nor home console due to limited hardware inside of it. But that is what it's created to do.

Is it a hybrid? In the same sense DTRs are. Personally, I wouldn't call either a hybrid, with DTRs being type of laptop and Switch being type of handheld. But it does differ from other handhelds in its design purpose. Well, apart from Nomad I suppose, though I'd say Switch's dock and seamless transition from one mode to the other by just sliding it in/taking it out of it is what really differentiate it from Nomad.

So "Home Console Replacement" maybe? HCR?

You reminded me of this laptop trying to be a desktop replacement in 1997. From cost to power to peripherals to make it seem closer to a desktop PC.

Wow! That was a thick bastard!! I am no computerguy but despite its size its clearly a Laptop. Back to the Switch: Of course its a handheld technically! A PS2 is a homeconsole first and formore. Just because of the fact it plays DVDs, does not make it a DVD Player. A 3DS/ PSP is not a digital camera despite it having one (ok the 3DS has 2/3). They are handhelds.
