Forums - Sony Discussion - Rumor: Sony to acquire Kadokawa Corporation

At a market cap of 2.92B it all depends on the premium % on top of that for the total buyout price. It's certainly not going to be double or triple that amount. Maybe 40-45% premium perhaps, 4B to 4.4B would be my estimated guess.

Given how "Western" Sony has become, I'm not sure I want this to happen.

Kadokawa owns a ridiculous amount of IP so I can definitely see the appeal for Sony but I'd prefer that content to remain distinctly Japanese. Sony seems vulnerable to social pressure from the rest of the world.

On the other hand, it's quite possible that Kadokawa could remain mostly autonomous in how it operates, other than Sony using its IP elsewhere.

This is what I hope happends.
I hope all these IP turn into RPGs (many are really well suited).

I see a lot of people online confident that Sony would allow Fromsoft to continue to be multiplat. Where exactly is this coming from? Nothing in Sonys history other than Bungie suggest that would be the case. That only happened because Bungie made it part of the requirement for being purchased. Something Kadokawa wouldn't give a damn about.

Souls type games do well on PC platform as well.
I don't see why they wouldn't keep allowing that.

This is honestly my hope as well. I love anime but man the games industry has not been kind to anime. I think it's Bandai who just pumps out sloppy anime games that are bare minimum games. Would be great to see a real Sony studio working on an anime IP.

^-^  this.

I want something that easily rivals "Ni no kuni" in artstyle, and with rpg mechanics matching metaphor refantazio.
Set in a believed anime IP's world setting.

I hope they don't do it, their gaming side is too western. But it would be a much better deal than Bungie.

Well to be fair I don't think PC has much to worry about beyond having to wait up to a year for the games to come over. It's Xbox who will suffer here and possibly Nintendo Switch 2. It's not about how well the games sell it's about enticing users to come over to your ecosystem which is Sony's main goal to get people on their console.

Think about it you're telling me Elden Ring 2 is just something Sony is going to allow to be sold everywhere? There's no way they don't make it exclusive at least timed to try and entice people over to their ecosystem. I know MS has given up on that strategy and is just focused on game sales but Sony still wants people on their console.

Yes.... Sony will want it to still sell like 15million copies.
Not everyone is a soulborns fan, and most won't be willing to come over (there are die hard nintendo and pc fans, that would never).
It might not be worth it, makeing it exclusive.

Sure but you could apply that logic to any of their games. Why not make Spider man 2 multiplat you can sell 25 million copies instead of 15. You can do that sort of math for most of their games and yet most of them stay exclusive except for going to PC and even that's timed. They prioritize their console and having games for it.

Even the guy from DF talked about how all his friends had all three ecosystems at one point. Once xbox went day and date with their games now none of them have an xbox, yet they all still have PS. Also it's not just about getting people because of one soulsborne game. Someone could say well now they have Spiderman 3, ER2, GOW3, FF7 part 3, etc that's enough for me to get a PS now instead of waiting for the PC version. It's an accumulation of IPs that build up to the point that someone says it's worth me getting a PS now.

I agree they wont get the die hard Nintendo or PC fans but maybe people like me who were a PC gamer and went back to consoles.

Please no. This would include Spike Chunsoft, and I like the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games too much to want them gone, no way Sony would allow that series to continue.

You know it deserves the GOTY.
