Forums - Gaming - Can resistance 2 be "sonys halo?"

Edit: Title should read can resistance be sony halo in others territory?

VG #'s has halo:ce at 1.42 million and resistance at 1.48 million in others. I know nothing of european game taste other than racing, soccer, and a faithfullness to sony products. The reason I chose resistance is because obviously it is a fps just like halo but resistance is set in europe for the most part. R2 starts off in belgium or norway and then goes to america. Anyine agree or a disagree?

Resistance 2 will be the next Halo game for the PS3 expect Resistance 2 to move heaps of PS3's worldwide especially in Europe and Americas. Resistance 2 will reach LTD of up to 6 million copies worldwide.

Man enough of this 'next Halo' comparison crap already!

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

PS3 Dominationzzz with GTA 4, MGS 4, Resistance 2, Kill Zone 2, FFXIII and GT 5.

I think Resistance as a franchise has the potential to become an icon in it's own right.
If it gets great reviews and turns out to be as good as advertised it should comfortably sell over 5 million and be a serious system mover.

Resistance 2 well be a good game but not a great game nor a system seller. On the other hand Halo 3 is just an average game imo.

Its a quality franchise which managed to connect with fans, so I think there is a good chance Sony will keep on pushing it, especially if Resistance 2 does gangbusters in sales.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

imo, the first resistance was mediocre, but with little to no competition people tend to latch on to whatever they have.
so sales will probably be good. game will likely be mediocre again.

Bolded part that sums up Halo 2 and Halo 3 perfectly. Both were popular and mediocre games that sold heaps.

The simple fact is sometimes a truly great game becomes massive, and sometimes its only a good game.

Halo was a good FPS that, because it was on a console, was judged a great FPS and groundbreaking. It was a key element of Xbox giving gamers (particularly in US) a PC like experience on a console, including MP.

From that beginning it became the massive seller it now is.

Yet as an SP FPS the quality actually went down I would argue, while the MP quality went up - but again this actually sat well with the masses.

So, can RFOM2 be a 'halo' for PS3 (i.e. become a larger selling game with its own identify?)... maybe. I think its much harder to do that now, though. If Halo released now it would just be another console FPS for example.

But it could, just... its got the base now from RFOM and is linked to PS3. RFOM2 looks like it could really be a big leap and the install base is hungry for it to succed... so it could, and I think the key is the MP and Co-op. If they really shine then it could sell bucket loads and become a true signature franchise.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
