Inflation is sitting at 3.2%, a far cry from a 35% increase.  You are sitting here two days before early access for Starfield the biggest non Zelda game of the last few years, Sony got spanked vs Xbox in the head to head direct presentations this year with every first party missing in action besides Spiderman 2 from Insomniac, and they give us Saints Row and some game that has a 45 on metacrtic  score and trying to sell a massive price increase at the same time.  If you raises prices, people don't just rant about it online, 17.5 million people have dropped Disney plus from the price increases.

My point is that people cry and bitch and moan any time a price goes up. Regardless of the rate, frequency, or compared to inflation rates.

And that gamers are the loudest, whiniest, most entitled group out there. I've never seen a collective so bitchy about literally everything relative to how little they understand the market.

I do think the hike is too much, I do dislike it, but Sony's right in that I'll keep paying it. Because it's still worth it. The amount of joy and delight I get out of the service is worth the measly 80 bucks a YEAR or whatever.

Business is a delicate balancing act. No matter the company, no matter the market, the goal is always to raise prices as high as they can get away with, and once that price point gets them to a point where the audience begins to fall off, that's the sweet spot they'll stick to. It's economics 101 and psychology 101. Really basic stuff but people still whine and cry and complain about it literally every time it happens regardless of whether it makes sense or not.

Like when games went up to 60 or 70 bucks. If you factor in inflation it should be higher, ESPECIALLY if calculating from the 90s where some games were 80-90 bucks already. Nobody cares about that. They just see the number go up and act outraged about it. And I find it pretty sad and pathetic.

And what world are you living in where Sony got 'spanked' by microsoft? Microsoft had ONE good presentation in three years, that's not a spanking that's a very brief respite from the beating they've been getting. These imaginary narratives just don't match up with the reality the rest of us are living.

I think to much people in VGC confuses explaning what is happening to defending it. We both hate what was done, but understand why Sony and others would do it and that most likely the majority of customers will accept it so Sony will keep it for bad or worse.

That is one example were MS started and the market applauded, Sony put their beta with PS+ on PS3 (but charging just for the discount purchase and "free games") seeing that people didn't really care about it, but once MP was locked under it them subs exploded. It is totally greedy from all 3 platform holders but after market accepted it became a lost fight.

Eh . Xband and SEGANET preceded XBL.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

While I don't think they backtrack on the price hike or even reduce it, (I think they should cut the increase in half) they are getting a lot of negativity now. Usually on Playstation's blog page they get 2-10 messages on most of the stories they post, on the playstation + essential updates they usually get 75-100 or so posts about it. 24 hours after posting this update it already has 784 posts and counting with 99% of them negative.

Did they charged for Multiplay? And well neither were very big or widespread.

And that is a good thing, Would hope to be wrong and Sony backtrack on the price hike.

Yes. Xband was as big as it could get for the era but doesn't matter how big or small. XBL didn't start it.

Whatever guys. Online is overrated. You will have Rebirth before us (PC Players)... you already have FFXVI before us.

I dont understand this shit, the timing is fucking weird with their competition releasing a big hyped game.

I am glad i only buy 3 months sub when i fell i want to play some games...

This is so inconsequential that I'm not even sure why you think it matters that Sony made this announcement when Starfield is releasing soon.

That said, price increases suck. But when I consider how much value I've gotten out of Essential these last 10 months, I have to say that I think the value will still be there (but I'd rather not pay that much). I do wonder if there'll be discounts like they've done before because I really wanted to sub to Extra for a year. However, now I'm not sure if I'll do that because it might be too much for how much I'll get out of it.

The the next 12 months will be telling on whether the price hike was ok or not. If Sony drops the ball on what releases for Essential and Extra, then yeah that's a problem. if they are somehow able to improve on the quality then I think that'll be fine.
