Forums - Gaming - Mass Effect, Should you buy? Reasons

I'll echo the opinions of Words of Wisdom, and say that you should forget about Xbox 360 Mass Effect and just wait for the PC version.

The PC version of Mass Effect will have:
- 'Bring Down the Sky' DLC completely for free.
- Better framerate
- Better interface
- Better graphics
- Mods
- And it will cost you only $50! It will save you $20.

I love the story of Mass Effect, I loved the Universe, and even were fun even if they were pretty much black and white but what I hated were the overall graphics and the gameplay.

For the graphics, when you're standing still they are absolutely beautiful. The art style is fantastic and everything is wonderfully detailed. Trouble is though is that you're rarely standing still and you're constantly bothered with framerate problems even in small areas. To make things worse, textures are constantly coming in a second or so late. I don't know about any of you but it completely ruins a scene when I look at the low detail model to suddenly have the detail texture pop in half way through a cut scene.

My other gripe was just the general gameplay. Actually, I'm just going to stay stop now and point you to my review of it.

Two words:  PC version.  ^_^

Are you sure you played many RPGs? Mass Effect doesn't even come close to being a great RPG. Story-wise it's good, but it's shit compared to the masterpiece stories of Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1&2 and Baldur's Gate 2.

My main complaint of Mass Effect is the length. I finished it on my first time well below 15h, around 12h (very very short). The game's replay value is decent, but when you compare to games to other wRPGs it also comes short.

'The Witcher' IMO is a better game, which also was released last year, and beats Mass Effect to the throne of best RPG of 2007. Even 'NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer' would have beaten ME if it wasn't for the fact that it's an expansion pack.

Isn't the picture used in the main post like one of the original pictures ever released?

Still, I'm excited for the PC version. I don't know if I'll get it yet, but at least the option will be there if I get the money.

I'll give it a go on PC judging by the fairly high level of praise its gotten in media and in here by users.

That and future DLC and current "Bringing Down the Sky" are FREE. WTF, Microsoft?

All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be.

If you beat ME in 12 hours, and are complaining about length and story, I believe the problem is with you and not the game. Although I don't doubt you beat it that quickly, it's very appearent at that sort of speed, you skipped either alot of dialogue, alot of crew interactions, and/or alot of side missions. So I don't see how it's possible to complain, again, when you didn't take the time to go through it fully.

For most owners of the game that play through the story, the first trip to the Citadel + it's available side missions alone take 4+hrs if you actually read the dialogue, and explore the game. So again, I don't see how you can judge the game when you took no time to actually enjoy the game.

And just wondering, why is the Witcher better when the critic scores are about 15% in favor of Mass Effect, on average? I'm not doubting the Witcher is good (because I'd love to buy it for my 360), but...Just from user/critic reviews...It seems that the Witcher wasn't anywhere near the RPG GOTY like ME was.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Last I checked, every game that was released at a later date, regardless of system, got the free add-on content when the game was made available: Oblivion for PS3 included extra content packs, Halo on PC had a few extras, and the 360 version of World in Conflict is recieving the PC Expansion pack for free. Thats just part of the way the game is: the one that gets it last, gets it for the best value.

Easily one of the best games for the 360. I enjoyed playing it so much. I wish I never had to of given it back to my friend. I would of loved to beat it again! Maybe I will get the PC version.

If I had a PC that could run it.
