i had a fight with sony, so i started dating nintendo now. She's so cute and small.

Is this what you meant?

OT: Nothing much to say, other than I agree with pretty much what everyone else said.

The wii will be a bigger impact on the gaming community because it's the first console since N64 (analog control) to introduce a new control scheme. However i think that the PS2 will have a bigger impact on the world at large just due to the fact that i made the DVD format popular, something that may or may not have happened on it's own.
Sorry but this is incorrect.  The DVD format was doign quite well before the PS2 launched.   Only in Japan did it have a sufficient inpact on sales.  When PS2 launched in the US, $200.00 DVD players were already on the market and outselling VHS players.   PS2 did very little for the DVd market outside of gamers.  For the the maisntream video market, stand alone players were much more regarded from the onset.

So the appeal for just gaming is slowly slipping away. We all want standards i.e. chat, video chat, music, picture slides, achievement charts, online competition etc We as gamers are accustomed to the new standards that gaming consoles have become.

Don't you see that as a problem?, i am pretty sure i have heard you call your self a hardcore gamer b4, and yet you have accepted that the appeal of just gaming is slowly slipping WTF? so now people should be buying media players which just happen to have elements of gaming attached to them, well call me a bitch, and thats what you a "hardcore" gamer believe. I have seen you rip into the Wii time and time again yet it seem to be the only console that is just that a console, do you realise people are buying the Wii just because of games, you probably complain about mini-games yet you are talking about other media attached to a console which is not even a game, the hypocrisy, not saying PS3/360 do not sell on factor of their games , but it annoys me when i hear somebody is buying a PS3 for Blu-ray not an actual game. Now in order to buy a console you need an incentive's like media playing capabilities, what happened to the good old days when we just wanted console to play fucking games?

The truth is, a lot of these so called hardcore gamers think like this dude i have quoted above, yet they would be hypocrites enough to blast a mini-game or the fact that the Wii does not play DVD's. When i get my PS3 it will be on the strength of games, not a fucking Blu-ray player, now its a nice added feature, but never a feature that made me want a PS3.

I think this is a problem nintendo saw, they said if gaming did not change its ways and started including new people and taking a lot more of a fresher approach then another form of entertainment would disrupt and eventually over take it. I tip my hat to them, i love games, i don't care what console their on, i just love games, and blu-ray or movie downloads want help contribute to the popularity of games, only games can do that. Some of you really need to get a clue

Thanks mate :D  anyways what I'm saying is as gamers today we expect more from a console - Online Chat,  music to streme during game play etc.  I'm not saying that there is a shift from games or that I want all other extras instead of games. I'm saying that we want more interactivity with the game and others. You take away voice chat, friends list and messaging from a xbox live subscriber and you'll so pissed people off.  Gaming is evolving and it now incorporates other mediums - which enhances games and the console.

On a personal note - I don't hate mini games - I hate wii sport and crap like that.  I still play old skool games... so go figure. No need to make a personal attack because you feel offended.  Not my fault you like cheap crap over quality.  Just enjoy games like everyone else.

  Unleash The Beast!

@bold part.  Correct, but many people fail to accept that it evolves in many paths and directions.   The direction you mentioned is towards PC gaming.   Not a bad or wrong direction, just not the only direction.  There are millions of gamers out there that simply want games and aren't looking for the PC like experience.   The growth in the industry allows both paths to be explored without harming each other.

No not "We" "You". The majority of console buyers couldn't care less as can be seen from the disparity between Wii sales and those of PS3. It's kinda weird how so called "hardcore" crowd think they make up the bulk of the world's population.

tuoyo hit it pretty good.  I think finalsquall, that you think the populace sees things through your eyes.  I personally don't think the majority of the populace, or even the majority of people who buy a game system, agree with you.  They don't have the same 'standards' as you.

Though, at the same time, at least you are not one of the people that is all insecure about their 'hardcore' games going away.  You know, those people that are all threatened by the Wii, casual games, and games they don't think are to their standards.  That go on all the time about how they are going to kill the industry and bring the quality of gaming down.  Ugh, thats what really annoys me.

I just disagree with you that most console buyers have your same preferences.  Or even your budget for gaming.

people who say the wii made gaming what it is are crazy.

1. Sony was the first EVER to sell 100 million systems.
Their are a couple dozen MILLION casual gamers that got a ps2 way before any nintendo product. Sony made a way for casual gaming.

2. Nintendos highest selling console system was what 60 million? Sony ps1 killed that and made gaming MAINSTREAM. (Sony did that 10 years ago NOT nintendo)

3. Sony has the highest console price in history to sell 10 million consoles and will one day sell more hardware and software then xbox 360 (with its year head start)

4. Nintendo will sell loads and be the industry leader but intill it sells 120 million plus then and ONLY then has it expanded the market.

Sony took what sega and nintendo started as a hardcore nich industry and turned it into a billion dollar industry that it is. Nintendo is using its merits and skills (which they do have) to take SONYS market of casuals. And intill they expand the market with sales of hardware and software then ill say nintendo expanded it.

OT: No system will ever do what sony playstation has done. it paved the way for profits for 3rd parties and made the industry worth while for parents, kids, hardcore gamers and casuals.

that sony we used to kow is no more. And no, Sony didnt start gaming as we know it, Nintendo did, then sony played smart  and expanded on it. Now it's nintendo turn to fully reach the masses.

So just because sony is selling in 2nd place means what it did in the past is no more? then this is the FIRST time ive heard of nintendo because for the last 10 years they sold in what 3rd?

Sony HAS reached the masses just because its selling slower NOW does NOT discount what sony did and thats sell more then ALL NINTENDO CONSOLES combinded so far.

I a way the Wii could beat out the PS2.. but unlikely as I'm hoping Nintendo learned a harsh lesson from their history.

But the System after the Wii should; given Nintendo follows strong business patterns and follow innovation over supplimentation.

If not then the Wii will outsell the PS2, I'd figure in this case the Wii could sell about 160 million LTD, while the PS2 would probably taper off at 150 million LTD.

Of course that's not wishful thinking, that's just going on the idea that demand and supply will stay the before the next consoles can overlap them.

(Similar to whats happening now with the PS2)

It really all depends on the software - if Wii fit becomes huge, like amazingly huge in America, Nintendo could be looking to enter a new billion dollar industry. (People will do anything to lose weight.)

They are going about it correctly too, just show an add of a woman doing Yoga, then the wiiskiing and slap in a person smiling falling back into a white couch behind them while seeming to relax after playing. Boom, you got yourself a mega million seller. (The person would probably have to be a female teen or olderish and medium build.)

Demand for the console would gradually go up and be kept up due to lack of supply and no competition offering the same thing at the same price.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

krik, that's the biggest load of crap ever. (and considering you have ps3 selling 5 mil closer to Wii this year I don't see why you wouldn't be a Sony fanboy.)

The Wii's minimum by its birthday would be 36mil or a bit higher.

p.s.- krik, get your facts straight. The wii came out Nov-Dec 08. (dec 08 for Others.)

Ok, so November 0 the wii will be at 36m (I said oct 2008 34m so not much difference anyway). Do you care to explain the path to the 150m?

BTW, since Nintendo released their earning we now have official data to work off.

Wii sold 24.45m up to Mar 2008 and Nintendo expects to sell 25m from April 2008 to Mar 2009. That will put the Wii at 50m by Mar 2009 (about 2.5 years). This is amazing but it still has 100m more to go...

If you don't like my opinions don't read my posts, I have the right to express my opinion just like everyone else. Saying the Wii will sell more than 150m is also fanboyism. Much more than my post where I just ask for details how do you guys expect this to happen.

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M
