It's not *all* about Mobile Gaming since Activision still makes a ton of money and would be a huge Game Pass pusher but I think if you weighed them up, the mobile segment is more important to Microsoft than CoD, so if there's an option of Blizzard + King or Nothing, I'm thinking they'd go with Blizzard + King, Lol. Meanwhile all regulators are banging on about is CoD.

King brings in just as much revenue as Activision (if not more) and when it comes to profits is likely way more profitable too, and that doesn't even include Blizzard's mobile projects and CoD Mobile is part of Activision's revenue, not King's. Microsoft has been desperate for a long time to get into mobile in a big way and this is arguably one of the few ways they can achieve it.

To be clear though, I think this scenario has about 1% chance of happening and I'm fairly sure that if it was a concession, they can't just spin them off, they'd be forced to sell Activision which means Microsoft has to find someone wealthy enough to acquire Activision, likely a direct rival, it's just an interesting scenario to think about, I don't think it will happen though.

Regulators have definitely changed their thinking in the past few years and changed what they actually investigate, I'm thinking that Take-Two would have faced just as much scrutiny due to GTA but I'm also thinking now that even Ubisoft would have faced this level of scrutiny due to Assassin's Creed.

I'm really not sure what the line is now, because in no way does ABK give Microsoft a monopoly or impact competition enough, maybe not even enough to put Sony behind Xbox, so it's because CoD is a big IP, there's a lot of big IPs, Lol. Now I'm thinking, imagine the fuss Sony will kick up to Japanese regulators if Microsoft tries to acquire a Japanese publisher, hmm.
