I don't think it would be too hard for Microsoft to "restart" either, OpenAI is ran off Azure anyway, any new AI they build already has the infrastructure ready, most AIs are just scrapping shit off the web too, not hard for Microsoft to replicate with a new AI, the big win is the brains behind the operation and Microsoft looks to get them all at this rate, one of the biggest brain drains in recent history, all going to Microsoft, if the Board doesn't reverse course and if they do reverse course, I imagine Microsoft will put people on OpenAI's board this time around, all this without paying billions to acquire.

The reality is, that nobody is really crazy far away technologically. OpenAIs advantage over others can be measured in months at best. Even Open Source models are not too far behind. That's why to keep technology leadership OpenAI had to quickly add new services, ideas, integrations. This disruption easily will cost them the leadership and if MS can poach a lot of former OpenAI-people, they will be in a good position.

Yeah, and the non-profit board seemed to dislike all these new services, integrations, etc.

It feels like it's a clash between for-profit who want to advance faster and non-profit, but it seems like the only people on the non-profit side is a few members of the board. There was a lot of restrictions on what OpenAI could do as a non-profit (obviously not what Microsoft will like) and OpenAI was valued at $86bn. Now it seems either OpenAI's board will resign and it will become a for-profit company (ideal for Microsoft) or OpenAI's employees will mass resign and join Microsoft (ideal for Microsoft).

Also Microsoft probably would have been blocked from acquiring OpenAI anyway by the FTC.

No matter what is said about this, I think it's agreeable by all that the Board totally fucked up here, they massively overplayed their hand and now they are left with either killing the entire company when everyone resigns and joins Microsoft or they will be forced to resign to save the company.

Now the dude acquiring companies for $0 💀💀💀

Been replaying Warcraft 3: Reforged lately since there's been teases that Blizzard may be planning a relaunch of the game and hopefully Phil is really pushing for it. Crap remake and still badly optimized, but my god is the game epic! It's everything that WoW was at its peak, but in RTS form. High Fantasy storytelling and gameplay didn't get any better than Warcraft 3, even by today's standards!

Playing it, you see nearly all the hallmarks of World of Warcraft minus endgame content like raids and dungeons. Blizzard truly were the kings of gaming.

Blizzard owes it to their fans and the gaming community in general to completely fix Warcraft 3: Reforged. It's one of the most important titles in video game history and should be treated as such.

Unfortunately, there's no way Warcraft 4 can ever happen at this point either. Not only are basically all the RTS devs at Blizzard gone, but WoW since its launch, has continued the franchises story. The first two expansions of WoW, The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King especially directly continued the events and story of Warcraft 3. But Blizzard can at least give Warcraft 3 the treatment it deserves.

We're going to need a documentary.

Guessing the offer is legit but it's not official yet because Satya wants to pressure the Board into resigning, then OpenAI becomes a for-profit company, Microsoft likely gets even more influence without acquiring the company. Either way, Microsoft is in a win win scenario.
