This was quite a task to rank and list my top 20 video game music tracks. Needed to go back and listen to a few soundtracks to find the right tracks. Tried to keep it interesting by not using multiple songs from the same franchise.
1. Tristram - Diablo
That Guitar is something else. The atmosphere of this game is for me unmatched til this day. Gothic, dark and awesome.
2. Star Guardian 2017 Login Theme - League of Legends
This track is the best when running, makes me fly forward. I absolutely love the vocals in song. Using a voice but not having words is something the team behind the music in League of Legends is good at. Without my set restriction of one song per franchise, three other songs would make the list from League. The music is actually that good.
3. Main Menu - Starcraft
This game screams cool for me. So darn cool.
4. Black Rose - Eternal Darkness
This theme have the ability to invoke both sadness and fear. I think the best part of the song starts a few seconds before the 2-minute mark. Most of the music in Eternal Darkness is mediocre, but this track just hits right for me, half way in.
5. Puzzle Plank Galaxy - Super Mario galaxy 2
I cannot listen to this without getting a smile on my face. It embodies the playfulness that I associate the Mario Galaxy games with.
6. Insomnia - Hotel Dusk Room 215
The music style of this game is masterclass lounge music. But this track is the sound of my brain in deep thought.
7. Fear Factory - Donkey Kong Country
The franchise that imo have the best music overall. Many tracks could take this place and no one would think it weird. But for my personal list, this is top Donkey Kong Country music.
8. Mood Matrix - Phoenix Wright Dual Destinies
The high EQ theme song. Calming and stressing at the same time. Headphones is recommended.
9. The Moon - Duck tales
Probably my most mainstream pick. But it is just so ducking good.
10. Venus Lighthouse - Golden Sun
Forward! Nothing can stop us! Victory is near!
11. Main Menu - The Last of Us
One of the reasons I do not play this game so much. Getting spellbound by the first piece of music in the game. When I first put the game into my PS3 and was met with this, I just knew that I was going to experience something special.
12. Hidden Village - Zelda Twilight Princess
Howdy.
13. Robos Theme - Chrono Trigger
I will not let you rust. Another song that makes me instantly happy.
14. Sewer Surfin' - Turtles in Time
15. Item Room - Super Metroid
Many years ago when I still lived with my parents, there was a radio station that played this song. I stumbled upon it and it freaked me out. I had not played any Metroid game. The track still gives me the creeps like few other. The feeling of eminent grey alien abduction is just around the corner. it is one of the worst melodies I know, and for that I love it.
16. Sensei's Theme - Advance wars Black Hole Rising
Give the old copter pilot a sax!
17. Infiltration - Resident Evil 4
18. Windy & Co - Conker's Bad Fur Day
Stupid fun. Hang around for some twister in diapers drinking a 1972 years mustard.
19. Heal - Ico
20. Tunnel - Pokémon Snap
This theme have no business being this unsettling in a photographing game featuring Pokémon.
