Forums - PC - S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - Impressive Dx10 trailer

http://ve3d.ign.com/videos/26380/PC/S-T-A-L-K-E-R-Clear-Sky

The first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was the biggest surprise of last year, a game that followed some of Deus Ex's mechanics, and provided us a gripping atmosphere on a desolate land. Had THQ not have pressured GSC, the game could have been released bug ridden and with optimized coding. Despite that, it was still a big success on PC.

Now for the second title (and a prequel of the first) GSC no longer is feeling pressurized from the publisher, and will take it's time to optimize the game. The video in the thread also shows some of the more impressive graphical aspects of the game, paticularly the dynamic volumetric clouds (possibly a first in any game). If the game is as good as the last one, then this could be a heavy candidate to best FPS of 2008.

Oh hell yes. The dynamic volumetric clouds look amazing. I'm going to have to upgrade my computer for this game. The first STALKER was fantastic. I was actually thinking of posting that video here earlier, but never did. Glad someone else is a STALKER fan.

Now, THOSE are next-generation graphics. GeForce 9, there I go.

damn you need a 9800GX2 for that. holy crap maybe Vista is worth it since DX9LE was canceled.... na....

I hope I won't have to upgrade my graphics card already. Do you think it will work on my 8800gt.

Wow thats amazing! Only problem is my computers crappy processor... :(

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I like...Very nice. Howmuch?

Some good looking lighting. Now, is it really worth a GPU and OS upgrade?

ehhhhh

It depends: OS? Are running it in DX9 or DX10? How much/what type of RAM do you have? What resolution and settings do you want to run it at? etc..

And once all of that is answered I can tell you with about 20% certainty if you'll be able to run it....the thing is that if you were to rate graphics of all games on a scale of 0 to 10 there are some 8.5's that would chug along on your PC and then there are 9s that would be fine. It all depends on how its optimized and how much time they put into the engine. Just based on how it looks you really can't tell how well it will run on a PC.

@topic,

I'm impressed, hopefully we can see some more of it soonish.  I would love to see more gameplay in the traditional sense of a gameplay video rather than a trailer that happens to have a couple clips of gameplay.
