Wow. This came out of nowhere and happened really fast. Sounds like the new regime has to be pretty terrible to be worse than al-Assad, which is promising - but we'll see.

According to HTS they've been planning for this for 5 years. The ceasefire in Lebanon was the right time to act.

Of course Israel wants to take advantage

Netanyahu says ordered Israeli army to ‘seize’ buffer zone in occupied Golan Heights

The Israeli prime minister says he has ordered the military to “seize” a UN-patrolled buffer zone between the Israeli-occupied and Syrian-controlled Golan Heights.

Benjamin Netanyahu said a 1974 disengagement agreement with Syria “has collapsed”, so he “directed the [military] yesterday to seize the buffer zone and the commanding positions nearby”.

“We will not allow any hostile force to establish itself on our border,” he said.

Fire breaks out in Damascus after a suspected air attack

Images show a building on fire in Damascus after a suspected air attack. It’s believed that the Israelis may have struck what is believed to be a munitions depot close to the airport.

The Israeli media reported earlier on Sunday that the Israeli air force has bombed weapons depots in southern Syria and Damascus to prevent opposition groups from seizing them.

Iran seems to have a more open reaction

Syria’s fate should be decided by Syrians, says Iran

Syria’s fate is the sole responsibility of the Syrian people and should be pursued without foreign imposition or destructive intervention, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has said.

“Achieving this requires ending military conflicts as soon as possible, preventing terrorist acts, and starting national talks with the participation of all segments of Syrian society to form an inclusive government that represents all Syrian people,” the ministry said in a statement.

Tehran continues to support international mechanisms, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254, for pursuing the political process in Syria, it added.

The longstanding and friendly relations between the Iranian and Syrian nations are expected to continue based on the “wise and farsighted approach” of both countries, the ministry also said.

Iran will continue its consultations with all influential parties, especially in the region, and will spare no effort in helping to establish security and stability in Syria, the ministry concluded.

Two thirds of the area has been occupied by Israel following the 1967 Six-Day War and then effectively annexed in 1981 – an action unrecognized by the international community, which continues to consider it Israeli-occupied Syrian territory.

Ironic how the former terrorist/Al-Qaeda man is trying to do more to stabilise the region than fucking Türkiye and Israel. HTS/SOR/FSA have defeated Assad, they've let Assad troops peacefully surrender, they've tried to open dialogue of cooperation. Meanwhile Türkiye and their SNA proxies are fighting with the SDF/Kurds and Israel is deciding to steal more land than the already illegally taken land they already have.

It should be noted that AFAIK, Israel is not fighting against the HTS/SOR/FSA, they're fighting what they claim to be Syrian Army but I guarantee they will use that as an excuse to steal more land from Syria than they already have. Why can they not just work with HTS to box the Syrian Army in a trap? They have nowhere to run, HTS at their backs and Israel at their fronts, there's no reason for Israel to enter Syria.

This is the reason

Netanyahu has to appease his religious right wing base which only sees taking more land as the goal. Hence they're clearing Northern Gaza for (re-)settlement and annexing the West Bank and East Jerusalem at increasing pace. As well as holding a 10km buffer zone in Lebanon and continue bombing Lebanon despite the ceasefire. (I wonder what will happen Januari 25th when the 60 days are up)

Türkiye and Israel are going to fuck this up for everyone.

Europe should work with HTS/SOR/FSA.

I think we should offer assistance to help him consolidate power, unite the factions, as long as he promises to disband them and form a proper government and also on the condition that he will leave the Kurds alone to live free and independent beyond the Euphrates River. Put diplomatic pressure on Türkiye to stop fucking around in Syria and leave the Kurds alone. Put diplomatic pressure on Israel to fuck off.

Establish Human Rights bodies in Syria to monitor the situation. Exchange evidence of Assad's atrocities and get an arrest warrant out on him, a promise that we will hand Assad over if we arrest him. Then a lifting of sanctions one at a time as long as they continue to prove they are enforcing moderate policies, monitored by human rights watchdogs.

Israel has issued warnings to 6 areas in southern Syria.

So when Israel steals Syrian land under the excuse of protecting themselves from Assad's army, and then the HTS want their land back, is Israel going to go running back to America again? "The terrorists are demanding their land back that we stolen!" and America goes bombing Syria all over again to protect poor old Israel. There's zero fucking reason for Israeli forces to step one foot into Syria right now. The situation right now is VERY delicate and all the dozens of militias under HTS/SOR/FSA will need to be handled carefully for the transfer of power into a stable government, Israel and Türkiye are NOT helping things.

Syrian Opposition reports that The United States Military has issued a warning to SNA and HTS not to encroach on SDF areas in Deir Ez Zor and Raqqa, including the Western Bank of the Euphrates River

Fair warning but label it towards Türkiye as well. I don't believe the HTS has clashed with SDF once during the whole course of this past 10 days of conflict, HTS has left the Kurds alone and even allowed them safe passage. It is SNA and Türkiye which is currently clashing with them. Looks like America's warning doesn't extend to where the fighting is currently being held between Türkiye/SNA and SDF though so they're going to allow Türkiye to take that area but not any further, I doubt that though, we shall see how far Türkiye is willing to push the limits soon.

Tell Israel to knock it off too.

Lets see, if HTS respects this warning which they should, then we should start giving them the benefit of the doubt.

HTS/SOR/FSA vs Assad is done.

Now we need to settle SNA/Turkey vs SDF/Kurds

Trump signals a potential cut in U.S. military aid to Ukraine if he returns to the White House, per NBC News.

He also promised to "try to end the war in Ukraine," but warned that Ukraine "might not receive as much military support" under his administration.

Russia weaker than ever, has just lost Syria and Mr Neville Chamberlain here is still pissing his pants.

He has gone from "end the war in a day" to "I'll try to end the war" as well, Lol.

EU Foreign Policy Chief, Kaja Kallas, calls the fall of Assad's regime "a positive and long-awaited event," linking it to the weakness of Russia and Iran. She emphasized the EU's priority of regional security and vowed to work with all constructive partners to stabilize the region.

Ukraine speaks out on the fall of Assad. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha says Ukraine is ready to work on restoring relations with Syria in the future but emphasizes the need for regional stabilization.

"Assad has fallen. Dictators who rely on Putin are always betrayed," he added.

Zelensky rejects Trump's call for an immediate ceasefire, stating: "A ceasefire without guarantees can be reignited at any moment, as Putin has already done. War can’t be ended with just a piece of paper and a few signatures. We must guarantee reliable peace and not ignore occupation."

With Trump's announcement on NBC that he will no longer be providing as much support to Ukraine and his demand for an immediate cease-fire this morning on Truth Social, we can only read it as Trump rewarding Putin, setting up for Russia to do it all again in 2 years after a full re-arming.

🇺🇸 Trump said that under his presidency the United States "will not hold on" to NATO unless other member countries allocate more funds to the Alliance.

December 8: I will end it "if I can."

Unbelievable the day Russia gets embarrassed there's Trump Chamberlain talking about lessening Ukraine support.

Destroyed Russian Pantsir at the outskirts of Damascus, allegedly destroyed by its own Russian crew, in order to prevent it to be captured by Syrian rebels.

Well, it won’t go back to Russia either.

Remember how it works:

95% of all people in Syria "voted" for Assad to become president.
97% of all people in Crimea "voted" to become part of Russia.

Dictatorships are stable, until they are not.
Meaning, they are not.

— (((Tendar))) (@tendar.bsky.social) 8 December 2024 at 15:59

Russia has already stopped calling Syrian rebels „terrorists“ and have started calling them „groups of the Syrian opposition with whom contacts are already established“.

— (((Tendar))) (@tendar.bsky.social) 8 December 2024 at 15:05

This is how fast Moscow can arrange with true realities on the ground and this is exactly what will happen when Russia is defeated in Ukraine. There won’t be WW3. There will be true realities on the ground which show that Russian red lines never really existed, only in the heads of weak people.

— (((Tendar))) (@tendar.bsky.social) 8 December 2024 at 15:05

He's absolutely correct, Russia once again has proven to be all talk, a few years ago they were saying if the terrorists popped up again they'd feel the full might of Russia, only to flee and start trying to be friendly to the rebels. Remember when Wagner marched on Moscow and Putin did nothing? Remember when the West broke 20 of his red lines and he did nothing?

According to German journalist in Russia, Ina Ruck, the Russian Foreign Ministry claims that "it has allowed Assad's fall and expressed its wish to keep its bases in Syria. They are hoping that the new leaders are going to accept that".

Fucking horseshit, only yesterday were they lobbing missiles at HTS forces, Lmao. Truth is they couldn't defend Assad and now they're trying to worm their way out of it. They have no other choice but to bow down to those they used to label terrorists. Because once again, Russia is all talk and no bark when actually defeated.
