On the other hand, I'm surprised that Nicaragua was red. I wonder why they were against it?

Nicaragua’s current government is very left-leaning psuedo-communist, and as a result typically anti-Western. They are the type to accuse the US/Nato of triggering the conflict. It is just pandering to Russian interests.

They should probably be pro-EU and anti-Russia then.

Ideally Musk makes an enemy out of the DOD, and they come down hard on the motherfucker. America can't have military contracts with a petulant child. Sure, DOD can pay for it, and they probably should, but the timing of this is incredibly fucking suspicious and just looks like Musk throwing another tantrum which could have serious consequences to the war efforts. I don't think this is about costs at all, I think this is just Musk's ego being hurt.

I'm fine with the DOD paying for Starlink and as I said, they probably should since it's so important (better than relying on the whims of a cry-baby) but with an ironclad contract which gives them full control over Starlink in Ukraine, no way for Musk to back out of it in the future, also no more Musk talking to Putin.

They should but there are a lot of simpleminded idiots on the left whose entire argument is "America is bad so that must mean America's enemies are good" and call America all sorts whilst supporting fascist regimes because America bad.

Not to say that the West/America hasn't done some bad stuff, but those lefties really don't have much difference to the far-right idiots. They'll happily support Putin or Xi Jinping as long as it hurts America, whilst looking the other way at how brutal these regimes are.

And I consider myself on the progressive left but fuck the tankies on the left, Lol.

Much of their dislike of the US lead Western alliance is historical, during the war between the US-backed Contras and the government of the Sandinistas in the 1980s, much of the country's infrastructure was damaged or destroyed.. this is how I imagine Ukraine will feel for Russia in the decades to come

By the way Ryuu96 I just want to thank you for all your effort in helping us understand more about this war

I kind of agree and disagree, while it's true that mentality exist on the extreme left I think even them in regard to the situation in Ukraine can see that Russia is the obvious bad actor here and only marginally diverge from this opinion.

I think Nicaragua's situation comes down to other factors

  1. Their past history with US
  2. Their past history with Russia/soviet union
  3. Population average education level
  4. Population ease of access to international news

Also off topics but in regards to this: "They should but there are a lot of simpleminded idiots on the left".

IMO, there's 2 kind of people in any ideology group (of course it is spectrum not just one or another) there's those who:

  1. Believe in their position
  2. Understand their position

Extreme are always constituted of those mostly or only do believe as understanding require a level of critical thinking that will more than likely evolve the way you think. I think this can be explained to some degree by the Dunning - Kruger effect :
