His comments regarding Trump really did sound like a textbook example of bootlicking.

Yeah, and it's not the first time but he keeps licking Trump's boot and getting absolutely nothing in return, they even push Ukraine out of some proceedings now because they don't want to upset Trump and still Trump gives nothing in return, only for Rutte to say all of that stuff...Also it's the The North Atlantic Treaty Organization whose primary focus is meant to be Russia, not Iran.
Rutte seems absolutely desperate to keep America involved and it's not happening, we need someone who will push Europe first. I sort of get it, he is the head of NATO and America is a vital part of it but like, how much ass licking of America are we going to do before we realise we're on our own regarding European matters? Lol
Oh and Trump's 5% demand was clearly a trap, because Trump has said America won't be committing to reaching it but other European countries should, Trump doesn't care about NATO, his 5% demand is only so he can keep shit talking NATO because he can no longer shit talk us for not reaching 2% when the majority now reach 2% (thanks to Russia) so he has bumped it up to 5% and he will go back to shit talking NATO for countries not reaching 5% and trying to turn Americans against it.
A lot of countries won't meet 5%, for some it would be economically and politically unfeasible, for others they won't reach it because Trump has said he won't do 5% so why should they? And finally, Trump is going to expect it to be something fast, but reaching 5% will take years, I feel this is all a trap so Trump can once again talk all sorts of smack about NATO.

He stressed Ukraine must not be left alone and urged long-term defense. MPs welcomed him with applause.
