My grandmother is to blame for that :p She is Indonesian, very short, my mother as well. I had to emigrate since I'm only 5'7, still much taller than my uncles on my mother's side. Family of shorties :)
My dad's side is atypical for Holland as well, family of heavyset people. (Belgian and German origins) We didn't quite fit in with the rest of the crowd with big family dinners at a restaurant :)
I'm 1/4 Indonesian, Dutch, Belgian and German. My one grandfather worked for the railroad in Lehat, Indonesia where he met my grandmother. They evacuated to Holland after the war. (Which my grandmother spend in a Japanese concentration camp) My other grandfather worked on setting up phone switchboard centers in Africa then became a sailor (deckhand on cargo ships) after the war (which he spend in a German forced labor camp)
According to Dutch law I'm a second generation refugee, now planted second generation immigrants in Canada :) My wife's side comes from the USA and Ireland. Big melting pot.
