I owned a PS2, GC, and Xbox last gen.

This gen I own a DS and Wii. I had a PSP till it was stolen, and at this point in the PSP's life I don't consider it worth replacing.

I will own a PS3, DS, and Wii. Although PC will always be my primary gaming platform, I feel that the perfect combination of consoles is PC, Wii, and PS3. PC covers the 360 games and the multiplats plus its own great games. PS3 and Wii both have unique enough libraries to be worth their own purchases.

This may be the first generation that I don't buy all major consoles, as I really don't see a purpose in owning a 360 if I have a good gaming PC and a PS3. Maybe I'll buy one next generation when it's under $150.

If you don't see anything in the 360 right now I can only assume that you're either not into RPGs or the DS is completely satisfying that urge.

It's not that I don't see anything worth playing on the 360, but that I don't see enough worth playing on the Xbox 360. The only RPGs that are/will be exclusive to the console are those made by Mystwalker, and they simply aren't that special. They are decent, but they are mostly FF and DQ clones and follow those formulas far too closely to be interesting to a long-time RPG gamer like me. They are also far outweighed by those on the DS, Wii, and PS3 (both individually and combined).

And you see more worth playing on the PS3 atm?

I own both PS3 and Wii....I´ve never viewed Sony and Nintendo systems as competitors, but as complementing each other...I´m pretty happy with PSWii,the same way I was happy with PS1/N64 and PS2/GC.

Owned a PS2, then bought Wii, but PC was always my system of choice, and most of the x360/PS3 games that i want to play eventually ger released on PC, while it isn't the same in the opposite direction (PC -> X360/PS3).

Most of the Wii games that i want to play don't get a PC release (which is logical), and most of the ones i've played were good, and i have lots of them that i still need to play, but simply don't have the time. And i'm the kind of gamer that doesn't want to spend more than one week on one game (with a few exceptions), so IMO Wii library is very nice atm, and it's getting better every day.

.

We currently have 2 PS2s, 1 PS3(with a possible second soon), and a Wii in our household.  At this point the Wii is just a big paperweight.  If we look at the active days on the Wii there are some every few months when a "Big" game comes out but so far none of the first party games have done much to make any of us spend more than a few nights with a game.

If anyone is seriously considering buying a Wii make sure to actually sit down with the system and a few of the games for more than just a casual play or two.  Make sure you're not just buying into the hype or it's not the first "Oh I can waggle my hands about!" feeling that is selling that console in your mind.

I see them in the future.  What's the point of buying a console that has a couple games worth playing now but nothing in the future?

What about Infinite UnDiscovery: WorstNameEverForAGameEdition?

To be fair, it's not as if the 360 is done with JRPGs. It also has Last Remnant coming and Mistwalker should get out at least one more game this generation. I think there are one or two more coming also but my memory is failing me right now.

Though I can understand your hesitation to buy the system. To me, it sounds like the type of console that would best suit you when you can pick it up for $100-150 and buy all the JRPGs for $20 each. There isn't enough there to warrant a $500+ investment.

Infinite Undiscovery was the one game causing me troubles, but it's an even trade for Star Ocean 4. It's like you say. I'm only interested in 4 or 5 games in the lifetime of the console, and they are all in one genre. Why would I pay $300+ for it now and $60 per game now when I can pick it all up at the end of the gen and never run out of things to play between now and then?

Oh, and the Last Remnant is going to suck. The only thing to debate there is whether it will suck more or less than FFXIII. Not that I intend to purchase either.

Hey, I never said I was excited about The Last Remnant, only that it's releasing. I have pretty much given up all hope on Square.

I had till I played The World Ends With You. I'll have a review up for it in a couple days when I've beaten it. My one complaint about the game is the main character is such an emo jackass for the first 1/3 of the game. Thankfully, it's also a game where there is real character development, and for once, that standard character cliche is actually right for the style of the game.

Also, don't forget that Square-Enix still publishes good games, even if they don't develop them themselves very often. Star Ocean and Dragon Quest are largely unaffected by the blandness of their primary development teams. They also make some great spinoff games. FFXII: Revenant Wings is far better than FFXII.
