Since when did those of us living in the west take anything famitsu says serious in terms of quality? I dont understand this logic of "X console has Y game therefore we need to counter it." Why dont console makers just make games for what they believe their audience wants?

What makes you think the PS3 sales base wants JRPG's?  So far 12 million people have bought a console with no JRPG's.

And the reason they counter games is to EXPAND the console's sales base, not just cater to it's current audience.

Why do you think xbox owners are stereotyped as "only likeing shooters? Because thats what the archtypical xbox owners likes where as the archetypical playstation owner likes jrpgs, well thats my stereotype of the 2. I dont understand why you even try to argue, I was putting sony down for failing to capatilize on what one of their core strengths were. (jrpg) I figured you would have reveled in that fact. sony coming up short. I know that last sentence just gave you a chubby.

I agree with you.  Original Xbox owners were hardcore shooter fans.  But Xbox 360 owners have shown a penchant for RPG's far beyond what the PS3 fanbase has demonstrated.  If you bought a console in the last year because you wanted to immediately play next-gen JRPG's, you bought a 360.

Your making the highly invalid assumption that because the PS2 fanbase loved JRPG's the PS3 fanbase automatically does.  But if all the PS2 JRPG lovers have already upgraded to the PS3, how do you expect FFXIII to push consoles?  This is like saying that the N64 must have had more JRPG fans than the PS1, because everyone that owned a SNES played JRPG's.  But clearly, that wasn't the case.

I still don't think Sony can afford to make another price cut till late this year, not if they want to make money this generation.

why does anyone even try and guess about sony's financials with the ps3?  they said they were losing money but thats probably only on the 40 gig and no one knows by how much in which markets.

sony knows what its doing.  they saw what screwed them up and they are mostly fixing it.  They will have a price cut at the right time.

my question is whether they show a new slim model.  they need it for japan, but everyone else will help too.  It will help with costs too, less stuff is less money.

my pillars of gaming: kh, naughty dog, insomniac, ssb, gow, ff

i officially boycott boycotts.  crap.

New Jak & Daxter is the obvious guess.

They show bias. I would of to if I had written this. Mine would of said: The PS3 continues to outsell the 360 WW by a fair amount, it still is behind in total console sold. This year......

Slighlty sounds like 10-20k while the PS3 out sales the 360 by 30-50k. 6.5m is far behind but in console wars that is nothing compared to the usual gap between consoles. If the PS3 and 360 end up only 5m apart by the end of the this gen then that is really nothing.

Do you not admit your a bit bias?

I love my 360 of course, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with how I wrote the OP at all.  I could just easily nitpick with your example by saying a "fair amount" constitutes 70-90k consoles.  Personally, I consider 10-20k console differences a statistical tie, given VGC's means of tracking sales.  You still remain the only person in this thread that has taken issue with the OP.

And given the fact that 6.5 million consoles is more than half the PS3 installed base, I'd say it is very significant wouldn't you?

Im just curious, what ps3 jrpg are you basing this thesis on?I know your not thinking of folklore because thats an action rpg.

Because the logical conclusion even a few months ago was that the ps3 would be the console to get the most JRPGs.  Hell, many people picked up a ps3 in anticipation for FFXIII alone.

Look at iclim4 and ~Onna76~ for example.  They both bought ps3s expecting all the big HD JRPGs to hit the console, and every time a game like Tales of Vesperia gets announced exclusive to the 360, it really pains them, as they thought things would be the complete opposite of the way they are now.

MS moneyhats really screwed over a lot of JRPG fans who never would've thought that a console dead in Japan would net the exclusivity of JRPG franchises who's sales in the past have come primarily from Japan. (Wow, what a sentence.)

Sure, you could say, "Well they were idiots buying a ps3 based on potential," but it doesn't change the fact that they, and many others, have done this.

probably a blowout on resistance 2, little big planet and motorstorm2
hopefully an announcements of the ico project and a new jak and daxter
