Forums - Gaming - Is it really worth it to be an early adopter of a console?

Is it really worth camping outside for 3 weeks and pay top dollar for a gaming console?

I dont think it is. Even if you buy it 2 or 3 months after I dont think its worth it. You should wait for a price drop or a good bundle deal. Besides the games that come out at launch arnt that great anyways compared to later games.

But still people buy systems at top dollar in its early life. Well I have to say thats your choice. I wouldnt do it.

For example. The people who camped outside for a ps3 were complaining about how Sony should give them a refund, and Sony should give them a free game or something when there was a rumor of a ps3 price drop at GDC 08. I say fuck you to these people wh complain. Its your fault you bought it for 700 bucks when you couldve just waited.

I waited to buy a PS3 and I got the 40gb model. I just use an usb port and a usb card reader and I have a ps2, so it basically is a 60gb model lol.

I will probably camp outside for the PS4 and thats the only time I will do so. I just want to expirirnce the excitement and the atmosphere of a consoles launch.

But to the early adopters, its your choice.

What about bragging rights? That's the sole reason people buy consoles at launch.

Well at least it should be...

Proud owner of a 60gb :)

Well, usually people want to play the new games coming out for this new console. I couldn't possibly wait more than one month to play Zelda:TP, therefore I bought a Wii. And price drops take too long.

Add me for Pokemon, New Leaf, and Fire Emblem, Mario Kart 8.

Wii Sports was worth $250 in my opinion.

Hell yeah it's worth it!

What happens when the console launches with Mario 64?

I like motion controls and it brought my family closer together because we now bowl as a family.

Are you saying the PS3 and 360 got their asses handed to them by shovelware ??? WiiSports is beyond anything showelware.... even milliondollar epic blockbusters don`t sell a system like it does...

I waited on the sidewalk on Launch Day for Wii. I dont regret it for a second. I picked up Zelda too. I think it is totally worth it. I would have to do the same thing now if i wanted a Wii. Wait in line for it. But the way I did it, I got it over a year earlier. And I still paid the same 250 dollar price. I dont see how what I did was a bad move in any way whatsoever. PS3 and 360 are a little bit different because they are available now and at a lower price. Its pretty much the way any retail business goes. You will almost always pay a premium for new products. If you need it then, get it. If you dont, wait because it'll most likely drop in price.
